It's not so much temperature as it is barometric pressure that aggravates my joints. And unfortunately Virginia gets a very high number of pressure fronts due to it's location underneath the North American jet stream. My arthritis was more tolerable when I lived in Arizona, but I don't have any plans to move back there any time soon.

Not often I comment on worklogs, but this one is sure something!

All the work (and time) that goes into these high-quality projects is quite astounding.

 

Well, my health for entirely unexplained reasons and with no help from the medical realm has improved over the past 2 weeks. I have all but given up on arthritis medications because it eventually got to the point where I was weighing whether or not to take a medication that had a slight risk of developing multiple sclerosis. And medications more aggressive than what I was eventually taken would have involved steroids in various forms.

To keep myself from going stir crazy during the interlude I had some interesting side projects.

The case as it stands has the basic components finished. I'm probably going to go with an even more minimal look after having time to mull over options in my head.

Things I'm hoping to do in the next month
1. Make the PSU mounting bracket
2. Make the case handles
3. Make final revisions on the Plug-Bus schematic
4. Leak-test the entire water-cooling loop
5. Flash the BIOS on the motherboard if it doesn't have version 1.03 or newer (early revisions didn't support Athlon X2s)

Changes I'm making
- I'm ditching the idea of stealthing the drive faces
- I'm going to integrate the front case faceplate into the drive brackets (the plan is to make the front of the case EXTREMELY DURABLE so the faceplates may be made out of really thick plastic)
- Ditching the spring-loaded drive mounting mechanism (I'm just not happy with it. I like screws too much)

And as for wishful thinking I'm hoping to learn how to do more work with sheet metal. I would LOVE to make an aluminum motherboard tray from scratch, but I'm not sure when I'll get around to it. At a much later date I may remake a number of the parts in aluminum. The machine shop I work at now has a TIG welder and a pan-and-brake and I will eventually become more proficient with both.

Now, let me clarify something. That 20 shot clip mod, is that hooked up to an air tank and fully auto?!

 

To make the Nerf gun more fun I made a PVC backpack tank to replace the tiny stock bladder tank that was inside the gun, then I combined the two included 10-round clips into one single 20-round clip. I can fill the PVC backpack tank to 60 or 70 psi and empty the 20-round clip in full auto 4 or 5 times before having to refill the tank. I can fill the tank with a bike pump, compressor, or small battery powered pump.

Today I had other things to attend to but I managed to make a filling funnel.

Instead of the fillort I'm going to be using just the valve. When filling and bleeding the loop the funnel cup will be used. Once the loop is bled the valve will be closed and the funnel emptied, removed, and replaced by a threaded cap. Both use an O-ring for a quick seal.
The valve allows me to lock air out of the loop completely so that I can orient the tray in either direction without having to worry about trapped bubbles migrating around.

 

i want that case...lol. excellent case so far. i absolutely love how clean and yet simple it looks. absolutely superb job.
