mmmmmm, I've just found a fairly old keyboard, with lots of modding potential. Above the F-keys, there's 4 cm of space, all the way! The keyboard doesn't has a windows-key either! (god bless us all ;)). The depth is about 3 cm.

I checked the dimensions of the VK202-25 (MO VFD display (20x2)) and it'll fit just in! Mmmmmmmm, how nice would it be....

Surely it would be better to have a VFD in the wrist rest of a MS natural pro?

I thought about it, but then when I opened the box for the keyboard there wasnt even enuff room for my original keyboard mounted cathode switches idea, never mind a 2x20 VFD

Sounds like a good idea if it fits tho! :D

I was totally gonna do that once. I have an old IBM with a big space where the LEDs go and was gonna put an LCD in there. It had a lot of room to mount it too, but I decided that it would be too much work. I was gonna do it with a parellel cable though so it would be kinda bulky. I wasn't gonna actually make the cable come out of the keyboard, just a male connector so I could use any length cable I wanted, and didn't have to hook it up if I didn't want to. I was gonna use an inverted LCD and put a piece of plexi over it with a limo tint so you couldn't see it when it was off (like macromans). I hope this gave you an idea or two.

How about in the monitor? I don't know of many keyboards that are good and have a lot of open space, but maybe that's just me...

It'd be neat, I think, to replace the LEDs with a LCD display that would tell you if the num lock and all that was on...don't know why I think it'd be cool to see it on an LCD as opposed to a little light, but I still think it'd be fun to figure out ;)

I wouldn't touch anything inside my monitor (ask some electronics guru like macroman or linear for further information... ;))

i plan to put my LCD which should be coming in next week on my monitor. right on the front where the controls are.

as long as you discharge the monitor completely before going in there, it should be fine i'd think. cut a hole in the front, make a cable, run it out the back, blammo. insta-LCD. :p

if you're worried about num lock and stuff, you may as well move them if you're gonna put and LCD in there, put em on the side, that would look cool! it'd be tight tho.... ;)

i think a crt still holds a charge, probably enough to kill you, for years even after you junk it. you would really need to ask someone who knows before playing inside it. linear has modded some monitors, ask him how to be safe with it.

/me had that problem and got a zap from it
one try your best to discharge it... two don't touch the circuit board and stuff inside... only the plastic case is safe

mebbe think about heatshielding your lcd... cause some monitors can get v hot... and leave scorch marks on the casing

Monitor is the perfect place to put it --- thinking about doing that a looooong time ago but never got round to it.

Still, I prefer the way that mon did it, bending a piece of Lexan into a stand (sorry --- can't remember your name m8) and put some nice ali dials in for some contrast control.... schweeet ;)
