Hello and welcome to the 5th edition of the MNPCtech case design contest here at bit-tech !

    The task

This is open to anyone, no matter where you live.
You have 1 month to design an computer based around a theme. You can use any components that you want, any form factor you want and it can be any shape you want it to be but be related to the theme in some way. The theme for this month is:

    tortuous: \TOR-choo-us\ , adjective;

    1. Marked by repeated turns and bends; as, "a tortuous road up the mountain."
    2. Not straightforward; devious; as, "his tortuous reasoning."
    3. Highly involved or intricate; as, "tortuous legal procedures."

Origin: Tortuous is from Latin tortuosus, from tortus, "a twisting," from the past participle of torquere, "to twist."

The main objective here is to be creative and make some awesome design !

After one month, there will be a vote to decide the 5 best designs and the winners will receive a prize!

I recommend that you use Google Sketch-Up, a free 3d modeling progam, to design your case. But if you want you can use any other program, you don't have the right to post renders though.
If you are working with Sketch-Up, here is a site with some computer component to help you a bit : link

    The rules

Please read the rules before posting !

*Do not steal other peoples work and claim that you've made it.
*Do not use something you made some times ago, but start a new design.
*Don't simply stack some components together but make a creative case !
*NO rendering allowed, and don't post renderings of your design elsewhere before the contest is over.
*you can use any program you want, 3DS Max, Maya,Cinema4D, SolidWorks, Pro-E, Sketch-up,etc...
*You can work on more then one design, but you can only submit one entry for the voting
*Final entries are to be announced in this thread. They should contain one main picture and up to 4 images from other angles to show off various features. Supplying the 3D model for download is also allowed.
*The deadline will be (edit) September the 1st, 12:00 PM GMT
*I will open a separate thread for voting the 2nd of September at 12:00PM GMT with all the final entries that I've seen in this thread. if I've missed some please let me know
*The prizes for the winners will be announced later on.
*In case of a tie, both contestants will receive the same prize.
*Prizes will be shipped globally, so the competition is open to all!
*post a lot of picture of your design and keep the thread alive !
    *Read the rules twice

If something is unclear please ask me or send me a PM !

    Disclaimer

Terms and Conditions: Items may vary from those shown in the images. Items will only be sent if the winner is willing to accept them. Postal insurance is available for a small additional charge. This promotion is not associated with www.bit-tech.net, or its affiliates, and they cannot be held liable for any damages as a result of this competition, and neither can Roboduck, or MNPCTech.

I (Roboduck) will moderate this event and i will not participate. My task will be purely to keep the thread nice and organize things slightly. If you see a conflict of interest, feel free to PM me.

Now have fun and be creative
I will be following this closely to make sure that everything is going well

I actually have a good idea. Too bad sketchups not powerful enough to draw the faces. This is gonna take a while.

You are allowed to use other modelling programs like 3Ds or Autocad. However if these programs have an inbuilt render function you are not allowed to use it. Simple.

For the first round of the contest you can post images from the modeling software only. You can not use any rendering software to make your images appear more realistic.

Image from modeling software (SolidWorks): Ok to post :thumb:

Image from rendering software (SolidWorks+Photoview360): Not ok to post :nono:

Renderings will be necessary for the second round of the competition but will not be allowed until then.

 For a second there, I thought Roboduck had a rolling start.
I have an idea I've been playing with for a while. I will have to work around some major weaknesses in SU this time around.

-Working on something for the prize pool too.

Right, gotta get thinking. I've got one idea that I'm sure will be very different....

Edit: haha. I kinda pitty you guys having towork with Sketchup. Although I might have to learn how to model in 3ds Max if my idea's are too free-form for AutoCAD.

Hey cheaps, just give up on su its really not worth it, try 3dsmax for example or rhino its more similar to su ! using su for this contest topic is like digging huge holes with a spoon...

@Lenne - I need kinematics for this one. I'd have better luck using lightwave.

I'll be on vacation till August 1st. Depending on the traffic I might miss the deadline by a few hours. Would my entry be disqualified or still allowed?
