God he must be a very board CEO of a big company to afford all that gear, it didn't look like a business but more of a home brew workshop for high precision.

either that or he get contracts to design and build special robots for space and ocean exploration.

    Holy f*ck!

Kenneth Maxon is my new personal hero... I DREAM of setups half as awesome as his; and this is just his "E-LAB"! There's a machine-shop in the room down the hall...

LOVE THE DESIGN! but fail to see the correlation to the theme. [edit]correction, I suppose it does hit the "intricate/involved" points smack on the head, excuse me while I go off to eat my humble pie ;)[/edit]

(I've been plotting away in silence for a while now, I'll share some of my latest doin's by weeks end).

With such a broad deadline, even I have time to join! Here's the start:

The idea is to gange each ring's position and size in such a way that i'll end up with some sort of huge spiraling (tortuous!) lavalamp, and then fit an ITX watercooled gaming box inside... wish me luck!

I got two questions for ya'll.

    (1) Mind if I join in the fun?

    (2) Is pencil/pen/marker on paper OK?

I'm quite good with the low tech illustration tools, but for some reason my copy of CorelDRAW X3 makes me mighty lazy. (Don't worry, I'm way better than napkin scribble level.) Besides, my main compy is an Asus netbook -- and it's mighty painful drawing on a 10" screen!

As long as it's a proper 3D design instead of a 2D image, i don't think we can technically exclude pen & paper as drawing program :p

I was thinking of submitting one perspective view and a few elevations... or do they all have to be perspectives...?

I'm not a judge, so please don't take my word for it, but it's the design that matters. As long as your pictures show that it's a complete design, who cares? It's all about the madness here :)

Madness...? I've plenty of that ;)

I'll post a few pix once I can haul my posterior down to Kinko's and get them scanned... my scanner doesn't like 11"x17" paper...

For now, a hint: think of the Myst games, and add a hefty dose of the aforementioned madness.

    :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

Great game series. I love it too.

Played the original... still have the CD from like '95 or so... somehow...
Played Riven, beat it once or twice.
Played Myst III Exile (my favorite of those I've played) and beat it at least 3 times, last one almost entirely from memory.
Played Uru, never finished due to a bug that kept cropping up where a certain puzzle wouldn't reset.
Played Myst IV Revelations, got lost in the jungle and left it there... might have to fix that soon ;)
Never played Myst V End of Ages or the Uru expansion packs, tho... might have to fix that, too.

    Good stuff all around :D

BTW, my rig design is Mini-ITX based... I've always wanted to build one of those, but never had the cash for the parts :sigh:

That said, the first rule of doing anything is to stick with what you know... and I follow Mini-ITX stuff quite thoroughly. Not that this particular mod is... small... in any way ;) It's a "showpiece mod" -- looks amazing (to me) but don't expect it to run Crysis at full settings.

One more detail to give away: it's named Doyha which is D'ni for "Machine". (I looked it up.) I promise that it will fit that description

EDIT: o rite. I promise also that you'll at least like this design... I'm aiming for something to blow the socks off of everyone if I can... :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:
