@editor- I almost called, 'no renders!' on that last pic. Love the new ribs. -still love the green velvet too.:D
@Dark - I forgot it was such a monstrous turd, and started a RS process with it unhidden.:p
@Titanium - DUDE! That came out great. The first pic would make a sweet skeleton setup too.

-The whole thing needs to be tilted forward 10 degrees. Why add the blisters to the sides?
-Because the WC for the cards stick out that much. The one on the other side houses a hardrive. I see a lot of 90degree fittings in my future...

    Final Submission

Here's my final submission. As requested 1 main image, and 4 minor images. One of the four is a moving image, hope that's ok; if not give a yell and I'll through together something to replace it with. If it gobbles up all my bandwidth then it'll also be coming come down, I've made it really small and crude to try and avoid that, but it's still seven and a half megs so don't be watching and re-watching it over and over, either pay lots of attention once or download it for repeated viewing. Here endith the preamble.

Now time for a written explanation for my dabblings. What I've done isn't really anything that special, all I've really done is create a custom res, and packed the maximum number of components into the minimum amount of space. For fancy frills, or far-out ideas, look elsewhere this is reductive rather than creative, engineered rather than aesthetic. This is revision #4, also known as Escher made me do it, because quite frankly you'd need a mind like a Gordian knot to come up with something like this.

"Escher Made Me Do It." is a perspective of the front face res, and the right hand side panel, those being the most/only interesting things to see. Beyond that it's a fairly self-explanatory image. One point of note is that Eddy's logo is reversed, I considered flipping it over so that it was the right way up. However, I felt it was more honest to leave it the correct way around; yes I could argue that I could buy a sheet of derylin and send it to someone with a 3 axis mill to cut it so that it was the correct way around. The problem with that is that it would no longer be one of Eddy's tops, it would be my top designed after Eddy's, so what would be the point of putting his name on it, and leaving it blank in the image as if I had gone to these great lengths, would be just plain rude, and probably in breach of international copyright law.

"Exploded Orthographic." is basically what it says; orthographic projection is a drawing standard (which I have completely bent to my own purposes for the sake of an attractive image) designed to expedite the understanding of a 3D object from a set of 2D faces. And an exploded drawing (usually an isometric or axonometric) is one where a complex object composed of many parts, is, well, exploded, usually along each of the six major axis. This is a sort of portmanteau of the two, producing something that doesn't necessarily make sense, but never-the-less looks interesting.

"Welcome To My Lair." I had considered calling it welcome to my layer but I wasn't sure how many of you would get the joke, so here it is included in the footnotes as it were. This is quite simply, the case on display, sitting with my actual computer (modelling in progress) a Lian Li PC-A10 (it's about the size of a TJ-07), sitting on my desk/plan-chest, with a 19" in landscape and a 15" in portrait to further aid in visual scaling. Eventually they'll be mounted on the double A0 drawing board you can just see on the left of the image. And eventually I'll get round to the gardening. And cleaning the car. And, and, and...

"Vascular System." is what every plumber hates, a tight and complex piping job. Fortunately it isn't all done in one stage, and the individual connections aren't too bad. I had an interesting experience helping a friend out with some plumbing once, the previous owner of the place had plumbed in the radiator and domestic hot water loop together; it was right back at the wrong end for anything to go wrong, unless you were in the habit of putting pressure up your hot water tap, in which case you could have had some very funny results. That little anecdote was just to try and make all these bits of blurb come out at about the same length, and I hope that one day it may be of some use to one of you; moral, always check for idiot plumbing.

"Madness In Motion." is a quick little video export showing most of the main stages of construction, some in more detail than others. Some bits are just very fiddly; other bits may need tweezers, and/or trained hamsters, and/or trained hamsters with tweezers. It's such a shame Sketchup doesn't support moveable objects in it's animations, it would have been so much sexier to show the mainboard tray sliding into position in the structural body, than just *flash it's there, and pan out* but that was about the best way I could think of showing it. On the bright side, a lot of you who didn't know Sketchup could produce animations will be well boned up in time for the next competition (assumptions, assumptions) and we'll be able to "ohh" and "ahh" at all the pretties.

Included is a brief list of components. Some bits are more required than others, and most could be replaced with a preferred alternative, for example a MSI mainboard, an AMD processor and a NVIDIA graphics card could be an alternatives to the EVGA, INTEL, and RADEON. The-world-is-your-whatever-you-wantit-to-be-made-in-china-clide-built-computer-going-out-of-buisness-sale.

EVGA X58 SLI MICRO bit-tech right on time with their review.
INTEL i7 Totally forgot to put Intel on my decals! "Guh, why won't it POST Yogy?"
    CORSIAR DOMINATOR-GT*
    ATI RADEON 5870*
    CRUCIAL SSD*
ASUS XONAR ESSENCE STX* Just to show a single slot pci-e card in place.
    EK 5870-FC*
    EK DUAL DDC TOP*
SCYTH GENTLE TYPHOON* I prefer the GT's sub logo to scythe's main one so that got used
MEAN WELL 1U PSU* A 1U psu looks like a 1U psu, I chose Mean Well as they do one at 750W

*Components from the SSC, thanks go to the respective authors for their work, without you this would have been a collection of nondescript boxes dimensioned from the manufactures specifications.

This has been your non-compulsory thousand-word essay, thank you for your time.

    Regards,
    Alex.

Not all of them cheeps, just the ones that are obvious from the front, e.g. the sata ports have plugs in them, but no cables, the slim-line has no cables, neither does the main boards 8pin. I didn't go completely nuts. Though thinking twice, I think I missed a trick; could have made it thinner if I'd used an external CD jukebox and moved the SSD's...

While we're on the topic of Titanium Angles base#2, it looks a bit like my trackball... only a very little bit though.

And both T-A's and Cheeps look like they could fly away to the funny sound effect in the Jetsons. Awsome! :thumb:

Looks like plenty of room for power Editor, and the base box is looking pretty neat and clean too now.

Confusis, I'm not sure how you got from hotrod to Art-Deco radio, from engines sticking out to thermionic valves sticking out (ok, cooling towers) but it looks pretty damn sweet.

Someone else hurry up and finish, I want to admire goodness.

Funny you should say that because while i was trying to find some inspiration for it my old trackball caught my eye on the shelf
    [IMG]
I might have a go at re-doing it to be more like the trackballs shape.

That's the very creature! How fun. More like the trackball's shape, more "woosh!" shameless use of onomatopoeia.

Cuzza, don't do it! :nono: I hope I haven't started a trend for modelling wiring, it was just because space was so tight I needed to see if I could fit the 24pin wire between the sata ports and the dual ddc's, the space was literally that tight, in fact it was too tight and I had to move some stuff. Then once I'd done that one I just did the others that showed. Modelling wires is a pita don't do it's more hassle than it's worth, unless you've gone super-tight like me.

That sounded kin'a dirty towards the end.

Ok so here we go these are my final entry shots :)

Its not as small as it could be but then at the beginning it was decided that the design just needed to be that big :worried:
    the case its self holds

    1. 2 loops containing custom res and rad
    2. x fired GPU's
    3. Custom caddy for 3 SSD's
    4. 2 loops each containing a custom radiator (cool tube) and reservoir

Power is supplied via the many pico boards and then filtered through to 2.5mm stereo jacks to make it a bit more modular.

Well roll on the pics :p

seems a desk shot is all the rage :)

In an ideal world I would have spent the weekend perfecting the ribs and the tubing but oh well I'm pretty happy with the end result.

Thanks to all the folks who modelled the parts and components and good luck everyone.

    wow editor22
    thats just wicked
its a shame that you couldnt put the rads on the bottom (colder air) and the res' in their place right behind the mobo
you could have also ran the tubing up the center pipe as a 'throat' of sorts
then have the tubing coming out the top
it would look a little cleaner IMHO
    just none-the-less
    thats bad @$$ :rock::rock::rock:

Stunned by the custom rad's, very impressed by the whole thing, an unholy cross between a spider-bot from Supreme Commander and the gripper from Beetlejuice. The two things that don't quite do it for me are, the tubing, and the lack of a tail. I wanted a tail :waah:

Don't let these minor points of mine, make any impact, absolutely awesome design.

Dark, it's small... I'm at my parents for the weekend so I don't have the .skp with me. However, I think it's approx 175x350x350, that sounds like the sort of proportional thing I'd do. Would have been much smaller if I'd gone air cooled, that was proto1, this was proto4.

So are we allowed to enter a case with atx in it. It obviously won't be small but it looks cool.
