Well, I was going to post some renders of my design, but now I just feel inadequate.

Well OK. I've been using Kerkythea to do these, I have no idea how to use it, and if I did it wouldn't help because my computer is too shitty to run it. So this is basically "import model, then hit the render button" stuff.

Cool, Cuzza!:D -Yeah, The default textures always suck.
It's going to be tough to beat editor's. I'm having all kinds of polygon issues.
    -This was my test render.
Smoothing ruins the flat panels, and I never got the motherboard exported.:hehe:
I'm bummed I didn't get a chance to add the filigree work.

    holy mother of ...................... whoever
    thats
    wow
    that just
    man i suck at SU

im reminded of the 2003 year of console gaming
with all of their polygon issues that was cutting edge at the time
    it looks amazing none-the-less
and if you ever get it all sorted out it would be stunning

and why didnt your mobo export correctly?
    could your cpu handle it?

@ Cuzza - its a real shame your PC couldn't handle it :( I'm away for the weekend but I don't mind running you though the little I know about indigo one evening when I'm back if your interested.

@ Cheaps - :jawdrop: that looks insane! really love how you've got the 2 res' looking

Damn the G&T's took three attempts to enter user-name + password! Regardless, looking good guys! Either that or it's the booze...

Ed, thought the external tubing spoiled the design with the SU post, in the render it's like mechanical/hydraulic veins that have broken free from the rest.

Cheap, short of investing five grand in modelling/rendering software or spending quite a long time re-drawing your curves/polygons with a much higher face count I have no ideas. Other than buying a parrot and saying "YAR" a lot.
Cuzza, I've never used indigo, but try playing around with reflectivity and/or noise (or whatever equivalent indigo has) acrylic will be more reflective, powder-coating will have more texture (noise) and I'd be tempted to choose a difrent colour/texture other than RED for your detailing see if you can find a chrome or copper or something texture in/for indigo.

p.s. I don't know if there's a SU exporter to "artlantis but I always found it to be top notch.
    Regards,
    Alex.

Edit/general tidying up + spell checking!

Where's your render, Asura?:D I was going to vote for you, but got suckered into pity-voting for Confusis.:hehe:

The problem I had with the polygons is that SU corrupted the hell out of them. When I went to smooth them, all the 'flat' surfaces crinkled up. It's been a problem in another model I'm working on too. I spent a month just trying to get the faces flat.
It's an easy fix. I just need to do 2 renders, one smoothed and one not, then photoshop out the messed up bits.

Thanks for the advice guys but I don't have the hardware right now to do this stuff, so what you see is what you're gonna get from me. I wish those fans hadn't come out grey, they were supposed to be translucent LED fans.

Cheaps, I feel for you man. I hate it when sketchup pulls that crap on me!

Asura, it has to be red, that's the whole background of it with the ruby orb thing. On the other hand, TT also do a blue orb, so it could be blue I suppose.

    Keeping the thread alive...

A black floor does wonders for hiding the ugly polygons.

Recieved a prize package today. Thanks, Bill! The fan grill is really neat. I didn't know you had them slotted to retain the center like that.

    Thanks for the image Bill!!!

What would be really cool is if the winning design got made! I think the fine modders at MNPCTech would be up for that challenge right????

Crikey I think you would have to re-mortgage a small country to build it :p

Thanks to dark for the rendering help and to Bill for hosting the wallpapers
