    Hi guys,

As part of my girlfriend's dissertation, a few questions need to be answered about mobile phones. If as many of you as possible could reply to this questionnaire it would be a big help. :thumb:

    Thanks :)

    1. What mobile phone do you own?

    2. What year was it purchased?

    3. What influenced you purchase your phone? E.g. Brand, way it looks, technology?

    4. Is the look of the phone important when being purchased?

    5. Is the latest technology important to you when buying a phone?

    6. Have you ever purchased a phone that you have become disappointed with soon after?

    b. If yes, what disappointed you about the phone?
    7. Do you think mobile phones are becoming harder to use?

    8. If yes what makes phones today harder to use? (E.g. User interface, the size of the phone, keys etc.)
More than one answer can be given

    9. Please arrange the following in the order of importance to you when purchasing a phone, starting with the most important:
The look of the phone, technology, ease of use, ability to be personalised, ergonomics of the phone, phone specifications.

    10. Please give a short review of your phone, describing –
How easy it is to use, what you think about the of the look of the phone, the way the phone feels in your hand, and what you like and dislike about your phone in general.

    3. The specification, screen and build quality
    4. A little
    5. Usually
    6. No
    7. Harder for new users, easier for people with experience operating a computer etc (usually younger people)
    8. User interface offering too many choices or a complex route to the basic features
    9. phone specifications, technology, ability to be personalised, look of the phone, ergonomics of the phone, ease of use
    10. It's easy to use for me, seems quite stable and good quality (both software and hardware). The screen is fantastic. It's a little bulky with the standard case but I knew that before I bought it.

    2. Long ago.
    3. It's a pass-on from the girl-child. Otherwise cheapest price would rule. One before it I bought, £25 Alcatel ? on offer at Morrisons.
    4. Within reason, no.
    5. No. Battery life might sway me a bit, or if it doubled as a phazer.
    6. No.
    7. This one is too hard to use. One new model has been dumbed down for people like me, I hear. Rest are overkill.
    8. Too many options. Who needs them?
    9. Price, ease of use, ergonomics of the phone, The look of the phone, technology, phone specifications.ability to be personalised,
    10. It's a phone, it goes in a pocket and takes phone calls. I can make calls too, if necessary. And I can get a top-up in Tescos. :)

TBH, I listen to folk calling in shops and think "Why on earth have you felt the need to have that conversation? Are you so lonely you need constant impersonal contact?"

    3. Have a good expirience with Nokia, has Bluetooth and IR, wich was a req. + A relatively good calender
    4. Not really, altough I don't like the extravagant ones
    5. Not really, I'm more in need of reliable technology then latest technology
    6. No, I usually look around before I buy (poor student here ;))
    7. No, they are becoming more pc-like, but that doesn't mean harder to use
    8. N/A
    9. Specifications - Ease of Use - Ergonomics - Technology - Ability to be personalised - Look
10.First, a Linky to the origional Nokia 6600 site... there you can find pictures...

It's very easy to use, and because of the Symbian OS, lots of programs can be added (like MP3 Player, SSH client,...). It lies good in the hand, but then again, I don't have very large hands. It has a stylish, but sober look, nothing flashy. Big screen.

    (+)
    Ease of use
    Symbian OS
    Bluetooth + IR + GPRS
Integrated mailbox ( + I added a mobile SSH client)

    (-)
    Big screen that scratches easily
Low res Camera (640*480 or something like that)
NO auto keylock (but addable with programs)
Small buttons (wich you get used to easily)
Long Boot time when turning on the phone

    4. Yep, I've got a black psp & black ipod nano so wanted a black phone.

    5. It is, even tho i know i'll hardly ever use anything but txts..

    6. *COUGH* N-gage QD

    b. it sucked major ass. crappy controls and let down with the game side.

    7. Depends on which phone you use, The ngage was extremely hard but the Samsung SGH-X450 i got while inbetween my ngage & d600 getting here is easy as pie

    8. Keys are getting smaller and smaller and ive only got small fingers and ts hard enough for me.

    10. i'll go on about the SGH-x450 seeing as i havnt got the d600 yet (in the post)
Its very easy to use, layout is extremely simple and all the options of the phone are where you'd expect (not like ngage). Its a small silver flip phone which looks cool. Could be more comfy in-hand tbh. generally a good phone if not a little small when txting.

    3. Mainly brand and price really.
    4. A little bit
    5. I like a colour screen and a slick interface, but I could not care less if it will play MP3s or take videos.
    6. Yeah. Well I didn't actually buy it - it was a contract upgrade. A Motorola v600, it was so slooooww.
    7. Yeah probably, but it's not something that will ever overwhelm a technophile like me. My mum wouldn't cope with anything new-ish though. She didn't realise you could type numbers while using T9 :duh:
    8. User interface. I don't think the size of keys is really an issue (at the moment)
    9. ergonomics of the phone, The look of the phone, ability to be personalised, technology, ease of use, phone specifications.
    10. I like the fact that it's small, nice to hold, nice feel, easy to use, does everything I need a phone for. I don't like: Lack of bluetooth, covering coming off the buttons.

    10. Is intuitive and simple to use. Has a atractive style and the filp phone not only looks nice but is easy to open/hold onto and curves around the ear well. The only bad thing I have noticed is that it is very easy to scratch.

    3. The camera, so technology
    4. Not really to me
    5. Yes, if I need/would use the tech.
    6. No
    7. As the controls become more standard, no. However, I find the UIs on Motorola phones are impossible to use.
    8. User interface; slow reaction to user input
    9. Price, technology, phone specifications, ergonomics of the phone, ease of use, the look of the phone, ability to be personalised
    10. The K750i is nice to use in general because of the animated GUI that moves quick enough to not be annoying. The mini-joystick helps with this smoothness. However, the other keys are a bit fiddly + small, and the phone creaks when you use the keypad. The built-in browser is nice, as it supports quite a bit of css. The camera and screen are fantastic, but the MP3 player is a pointless gimmic imo. The phone looks nice enough for me. It's nice to be able to change the theme on the phone as well.

    Hope that's useful!

EDIT: I prefer Sony Erricson and Nokia phones, as I can use dial-up on them. I've never made it work properly on other makes (Motorola, LG, Samsung etc.)

    5. Yes
    6. Yes, it has no profiles.
    7. Not for me, but they are becoming complicated (more things to go wrong).
    8. The button designs are getting dumber and dumber. The buttons on my phone are flush with the body, you have to use your nail so as not to press any other buttons.
    9. Phone specifications, technology, ability to be personalised, the look of the phone, ergonomics of the phone, ease of use.
    10. It feels chubby to hold. It leaves a big bulge in my pocket, hard to crouch with jeans. Lack of customizable profiles. Nice high brightness and vivid display. Low resolution though. Incesent tone when battery is low. No MMC card feature. The camera is a bit crappy in certain lighting conditions (even when outside in broad-daylight).

I like the phone because the buttons are quite big compared to most phones of today, this is important to me as i have big clumsy fingers and i owned an 8310 for 1 week before i got rid of it. also technology on this phone is very nice, pity about the battery life. last long enough for me to go away for a weekend without my charger though. and i make roughly 20minutes of phonecalls a day.

I find it very easy to use, the phone looks good in my opinion, fits hand pefectly. I like the fact it has an mp3 player, good camera and video quality and decent battery life. Nothing I dislike about the phone really apart from when it warns me every couple of minuites that the battery is low and it does this for about an hour or more before the battery is actually dead, there's no way of turning this off which is annoying when I'm nowhere near a charger and my battery is low, I have to put my phone on silent.

    3. The way it looks, good user reviews, how it felt, the huge community for modification of the phone (and the ease of modification. I mean, how cool is it when you can use a normal USB cable, and some free software to do anything to your phone you want?)

    4. I absolutely will NOT even consider a phone unless it looks good.

    5. Absolutely.

    6. Yes. It was my first phone, and it was given to me by my mother.

    b. 1 hour of battery life (stand-by, not talk time), no features, big, ugly.

    7. Much easier. (more buttons = win)

    8. Umm, I would have to say more buttons/features (for anybody that finds that they're getting harder to use)

    9. Look, personalization, ergonomics, specifications, technology, ease of use.

    10. I've so far found the razr to be extremely nice of a phone. It has a very sturdy casing, a well laid-out keypad, lots of useful buttons, a good menu (except for the settings bit, as that just sucks!) beautiful big screen, and exceptional call quality. The look of the phone is absolutely amazing, it is the main reason I bought the phone! Whenever I use the damn thing everybody at work stops and says "nice phone! How much?". I'm still trying to get used to it though, as having switched from a small bar-phone (T616) to this (my first ever cam-shell) is quite the leap. So far though I'm finding the increased size (when open) to be very useful and a good thing. But over-all, I get a very solid, well-built tactile feel in my hand. It kinda reminds me of a very well made/expensive knife, or hand-gun. The absolute only thing I dislike about the phone is the strangeness about how it likes to charge. It will only ever charge to full when it is off, otherwise it'll only charge to 50%. Oh, and there isn't enough memory!

    Audiovox (?) 8910
    2. What year was it purchased?
    2005
    3. What influenced you purchase your phone? E.g. Brand, way it looks, technology?
Nothing in particular. Price if anything. My dad had a similar one and it was the newer model, and as he bought the thing, I didn't have a whole lot of say.
    4. Is the look of the phone important when being purchased?
    Not particularly.
    5. Is the latest technology important to you when buying a phone?
Not at all. All I want is for it to give me good signal. I honestly hate the idea of other junk being integrated in, because it means that you have a bunch of stuff that sorta-works instead of one thing that works fairly well.
    6. Have you ever purchased a phone that you have become disappointed with soon after?
    I've only had one.

    7. Do you think mobile phones are becoming harder to use?
No, but they're trying to add in too much stuff.

    8. If yes what makes phones today harder to use? (E.g. User interface, the size of the phone, keys etc.)
Mine's easy enough. Dial number, hit send. That's all I ever use it for, except the odd picture, which is also easy enough.

    9. Please arrange the following in the order of importance to you when purchasing a phone, starting with the most important:
The look of the phone, technology, ease of use, ability to be personalised, ergonomics of the phone, phone specifications.
Specs (only referring to signal quality), personalization ("can I turn off that damned startup chime" is about all I care about), ergonomics, tech, look.

    10. Please give a short review of your phone, describing –
How easy it is to use, what you think about the of the look of the phone, the way the phone feels in your hand, and what you like and dislike about your phone in general.
Small, easy enough to use for what I do. Somewhat awkward to use, especially if driving. The speakerphone is a total POS. My dad's (8900) has utterly horrible contrast and you can't turn off the annoying as heck startup noise thing (mine can, thank God). All I do is make calls, and on rare occasions snap a quick pic. The pic button on the side is way too easy to hit if it's in your pocket, and it saps the battery life like I've never seen done before. On the two occaions I've done txt messages, it's as annoying as on any other phone that doesn't have a full keyboard integrated.

I hate the idea of integrating in a dozen devices. I want my phone to be a phone and nothing more. As watching movies gets painful quick enough on my 5G iPod, I'd hate to imagine going to ANY website on the 1.5" screen of a cell (or doing anything where you need to read more than a sentence). I want each device to have one main function and do it WELL, not have one thing do a dozen functions crappily, as cell phones seem to be migrating towards. The camera is too low-res to be useful in any situation (and I can't get pics off the thing without spending a buck to send them to my email address), so in effect it's pointless to me. If it had a USB connection and even 1MP resolution, it might be somewhat more useful.

    10. Its a small lightweight phone, i wouldn't want it to be smaller but could have taken a small increase in size. It fits well in my hand and works well with one handed use. It looks smart in its standard cover but it can be changed, so i suppose that it can look how you want it to. Ease of use is good, it has a few little quirks but i became accustomed to them quickly. The operating system is Series 40 so it should be familiar to anyone who has used a phone with this generation of OS on before. Generally the battery life is good lasting a couple of days on a single charge, and recharging quickly. The camera is half decent at 1.3 Mpx giving photos that while not excellent come close to being printable at standard size. The screen is bright and displays colours well, even in strong light. My issues with the phone are that the c
and what you like and dislike about your phone camera suffers in low light areas, but then most phone based cameras do. I would want the screen to be bigger, there is easily room on the phone to enlarge it and i was disappointed that it wasn't in the upgrade release. My third gripe is with phones in general, they still aren't properly customisable. I would like to change everything about the menu system through something like XUL. At the moment you can change their look but not their structure.

10.Looks pretty good. Nothing special about it. It feels good in the hand, everything is easy to reach and feels natural. The pluspoints are the memory stick expansion slot, 2Mpixel camera & bluetooth. It has just about everything a phone can have atm. My only concern is the quality of it. Mine has let me down a few times.. Warranty isn't that superb either.. Crappy repair service tbh.

Next time I might settle for less technology and better quality though.

    10. Very Easy to use, small, however the buttons on the side of the phone (volume) can be a little trcky to press. The look of the phone is good, it is compact minimalistic interface, and the back of it looks good too. the phone is not too heavy, infact just the right weight and all the buttons are easily in reach of your fingers. The keyupad buttons are a little stiff to press down in a hurry.
