Just wondered if anyone had any recommendations over a new mobile phone? My 18 month contract is up, I've had the Nokia N95 and i'm wondering what to go for... The majority of people are suggesting an iPhone. Any alternatives that people would recommend?
What do you want with it? Is size an issue? Do you want to play lots of music? Would a physical keyboard be helpful? Personally my first choice would be the Sony Xperia X1 at the moment, or possibly the HTC Touch Diamond 2 if you can cope without the keyboard and headphone socket. Bear in mind that all of the above have cameras that are significantly worse than the one in the N95. If that is an issue for you, then how about an N96? edit: or you could just keep your N95, as it still is a good phone, and sell the replacement.
T-mobile G1 is very good, i'd love to run that Android. iphone is getting old, you should wait until June for rumoured iPhone 2.
If your after a simple job done phone then i'd recommend a Blackberry. I have a Pearl and it's easily been the best phone i've had. What really gets me with the latest phones is the battery life. Even my other phone, a very simple Nokia 9500 Classic has a crap battery and so have all the Sony Ericssons I've had. My Blackberry has a cracking battery and i can easily get away with charging it just once a week which is a huge plus.
I mainly use it for the Music and texts... The internet side of things would be a bonus, which is why i'm kinda leaning towards an iPhone... I was under the impression that it is only firmware 3.0 coming out for the iPhone soon, not an entirely new handset... If i'm wrong please link me!
As usual Apple haven't confirmed anything, but there are reports of them ordering new components from suppliers and other hints that indicate a new iPhone launch might be on the cards.
The Nokia N97 looks amazing but it ain't out yet. What do you actually use your phone for? I'm happy with my Blackberry Curve 8900 personally.
what you got to AVOID is resistive touch screens. that rules out all Windows Mobile phones and all Nokia touch screens. resistive touch are single touch screen, have to push hard, easy to scratch, feels plastic. not ideal at all. capacitive touch screens are currently the most common alternative. iPhone, Andriod phones, Blackberry Storm are the only ones. out of those, a G1 now or wait for Apple to announce new iPhone would be the best idea. since you don't want to be stuck with a phone that can't run some new features such as rumoured compass hardware.
Wait until Mid June for the new iPhone to be released (it WILL be announced) Then it should be released Sometime in July.
Single touch, yes, but would you want two mouse cursors? Easy to scratch, not that easy, mine only got its first scratch when it got jammed between my bed and the wall. Feels plastic, yes, but, so? As for pushing hard, my htc touch pro is very sensitive. And there is software that lets you adjust how hard you have to push.
Uhh, Resistive Touch Screens Suck. Dont Support MultiTouch Have a layer over the screen Image distorts around touched point very few support Finger Use.
I have used both a Touch Pro and an iPhone and although the touch pro has great responsiveness the iPhone is alot nicer to use an it just feels better quality touching a hard piece of glass rather than a floppy piece of plastic. Just my humble opinion
my friend's HTC touch HD sucks big time. hard to use, none responsive, need to push hard, gesture based input can be forgotten. basically resistive touch screen is not ideal on a mobile phone. ah yes. i forgot Palm Pre, i was really looking forward to that. hope they pull it off.
As I have said before, I completely disagree that resistive touch screens are bad. I like them. The one on my Touch Diamond is easy to use, responsive and clear. It hardly moves when you touch it and is completely flush with the face of the phone. The major advantage of the resistive touch screen is that you can use them with gloves on, so that when it is cold you don't have to get it out of your pocket. As far as not supporting gestures etc, I may be misunderstanding what you mean but a) that is a software thing and b) they do! When choosing your phone, another thing to consider is the size. For example the Touch Diamond is around the same thickness as an iPhone but smaller in all other dimensions. The Touch Pro is a bit thicker, due to the keyboard.
I Dont understand how a resistive Touch Screen works with Multi Touch, when it relies on an X,Y Axis to locate the pointer.
Its not multi touch. But like I said earlier, do you need two mouse cursors on a computer? Do you need two fingers on the screen? I have no need for multi touch on my touch pro. Its not hard to push, its very responsive, and the image around where the screen is being touched does not distort.
I Find Multitouch allows me to do things quicker, that would otherwise take more presses to do. Oh, and Games use it pretty well
my i ask the 2 resistive touch fans, have you tryed capacitive touch phones? once you used capacitive touch phones, you can never get the hang of resistive touch, it's just two different world.
