At the moment i have a bog standard compaq pc and being a little new to the game, thought that i would be able to transfer the internals into a new case!!

    WRONG

Seems compaq have done a little fiddling to stop this.

The PSU is to large for normal postion and bracket.
The power conncetor to the mobo has 4 extra blocks
The cpu fan and heatsink also have a unique connection to the mobo tray!!!
And there is acomplex plug for the switch, led, reset and hdd led.

So im looking for a good deal on a processor, mobo and heatsink?

At the moment have 1.8ghz P4.

Are there any combonation deals on the mo?

Stick your 1.8ghz P4 in an Intel 865 mobo with something like an Alpha Pal heatsink (see that recent pol to see how popular they are, albeit mainly with the AMD crowd) and OC it to >2.4Ghz speeds. Should set you back a touch over £115ish.
