    Hi all,

A mate of mine is wanting to replace his E8400, 4gigs Pc2-6400 and GA-P31-DS3L with a tasty i5-2500K setup. I've been a little out of the loop on mobos recently (no cash to spend :( ), what do people reckon is the cheapest decent motherboard for overclocking a 2500K?

Unless your planning to go beyond 4.5ghz any P67 mobo will be fine for overclocking.

Can I ask why the MATX version of the P8P67 was suggested? Simply curious. I know the bigger ATX board has a lot expanision potential, but from a performance/overclocking POV is there any difference?

He wanted the 'cheapest decent' mobo for OC the i5 2500k. The ATX versions cost about £40 more but not necessary for his needs

What features does the micro lose over the ATX?

DIGI+ VRM, but he can still auto-overclock and gets the flashy new UEFI BIOS etc.

I happen to have the GA p67 UD4,
but rly, I think you should go for one of the ASUS boards (auto OC, new BIOS).

Only reason I got the gigabyte was, uhm, cus some ppl said it was more stable and caused less problems than the new ASUS boards, because it runs an older BIOS. It will probably even be updated with the new BIOS when gigabyte thinks its stable enough (wonder when that's going to happen :/)

I do not know a lot about motherboards but I can say one thing:

I bought the P8P67 after reading the Bit-tech review and I am very happy with it.

I would never buy a micro board personally - for the simple reason I am a clumsy git with clumsy fingers and its just nice to have a bigger and nicely spaced out board to work with!

If you don't need SLI or decent multi-GPU support then go for the P67P8

If he wants decent OC ability and sli and xfire support (and if he's being very cost conscious), he can get the P8P67-M PRO Rev3 which is £15 cheaper than the (atx) P8P67 and will be just as good for overclocking

Except Gigabyte insist on using an antiquated BIOS.

Bonus question: Any real fundamental difference between the P8P67 B3 and the P8P67 LE?

On a related note, Asus seems to have pumped a ton of these new P67 boards out: the M, M Pro, LE, vanilla B3, Pro, Evo, Deluxe, Sabertooth, Maximus IV Extreme.

Haven't read the whole thread and don't want to butt in with everyone else supporting/discussing but if you want specific answers to the ASUS P8 boards just shoot me a question :)

I'm not be here to sell, but rather here to support ;)

Mayswell ask it for him. If he wants to overclock an i5 2500k (and is on a budget), will a P8P67-M PRO be fine for his needs, or should he pay the 40 quid more and get an ATX P8P67 PRO - does he lose that much by going mATX (even though its about 40 cheaper)?
