Hi all, I am looking for a new mobo I would prefer Abit, Asus or Gigabyte, socket 775, Intel core duo, at least 1 PATA coonector etc. Only thing is it needs to be aroung to £100 inc vat range, the only game I like and have are, Doom 3, Quake 4 and Halo 1, and office work So it needs to be an all rounder. Recomandations welcome, need to update as my AI7 is getting a bit old regards Andy
do you need RAID, firewire, serial ports etc.? 1 of the abit or Gigabyte P35 chipset mobos should do you.
Gigabyte P35C-DS3R Supports DDR2/DDR3 on scan its about 73 pounds FSB up to 1333 and support for the 45nm processors comming out. Other options are Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3 ICH9 instead of ICH9R for 71 pounds Asus P5KC for about 80 pounds Now the difference between the DS3R and DS3 is minimal as well as the price but they have slightly different backpanels so its up to prefs. The Asus looks cool but again its all up to your specs. I doubt you would see much difference between the motherboards performance wise. Hope this helps!
Second on the Gigabyte P35C-DS3R, Abit iP35 -E looks interesting but i havent had a fiddle with one yet.
Abit IP35-E seconded here. It is an amazing overclocker, and one of the cheapest P35 boards on the market today. Unless you need more features than that board can offer, go for it, and if you need eSATA, just buy a PCI slot adaptor, they only cost £5.
For the Gigabyte mobos C is not for crossfire even ones without C in the name have crossfire. As far as I can tell if the name has a C in it it means it supports DDR2 and DDR3 RAM.
Ah, yea I just remembered. There's so many DS3s it's confusing. Basically - don't ever bother with a combo board - they make the BIOS a compromise between DDR2 and DDR3 so it's neither super compatible or super performing like a single type of board.
i disagree with you there mate, the gigabyte is faster than sh*t off a chrome plated shovel. yes in the past such combo boards that mixed AGP and PCI-E, cough 'Asrock' were slow in performance but made up in there value.
Between Abit and Gigabyte I'd choose the Gigabyte. Asus is very good as well and would get it before buying another Abit.
Hi All, Have been looking at these what do you think:- (No particular Order) 1. Gigabyte GA P35-DS3P, Gigabyte GA P35-DS4 and Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L 2. MSI P35 Neo-F 3. Asus P5KC 4. Abit IP-35 Thanks for recomendations/help so far Andy
DS3P seems to be the sweet spot atm for giving you features that you may want without the unnecessary (albeit they may be nice touches) fripperies. DS4 is same board with different cooling. abit IP35 wouldn't be far behind. As already mentioned combo boards (e.g. P5KC) don't tend to overclock as well as boards dedicated to 1 type of RAM - I know of a well known overclocker who switched from a P35C-DS3R to an IP35 & much prefers the abit.
why not go for the asus p5k delux more features ,good overclocking features and the price isnt too high...
the p5kD doesnt have way too much features and the price doesnt differ much than the ip35... well in the end it depends what you need it for... both of them are very good cards...
I agree you can't beat abit stuff, the E is just the same board without the nice colour and trimmings
