Just like this aspiring modder: http://www.wisinfo.com/postcrescent/news/archive/local_3204626.shtml I give him a 2 for technique, but a 10 for enthusiasm.
That is too funny EDIT: I'll add that I purchased a Gateway in 1991. Very good machine, and they had good service. They replaced my HDD, MB and SCSI controller in order to solve a problem. Not certain what the problem was, but that solved it. Amazing to think back then a 486/33 EISA with 8MB RAM was considered a SERVER .
You guys shouldn't pick on poor Gateway's..... They are great litle machines................ for holding the boat still while you are fishin'!Come to think of it there are several companies producing similar quality anchors...Dell..Compaq....PB..ect..
Hey guys that was pretty funny. My friend gateway computer crashed and his floppy drive also didn't work. He took it to one of those Gateway service center's and when he got it back the floppy didn't work. If you ask me they screw him because I think he could have gotten most of his files of the crashed harddrive. And they didn't even fix his flopp!
Gateway was a great company to buy a system from back in the day but, like everything, when you get that big, service suffers too much. My sister bought a Dell 8100 P4 and called me last week for help and I couldn't really solver her problem over the phone. She said she had already spent 6 hours on the phone with them and they ultimately passed her over to OS support for a charge of $30.... I wonder if she has a sledgehammer... maybe I ought to check
I had a Gateway until last year tbh it wasnt quite that bad, only rubbishy thing about it was the PSU was a MATX one even though the motherboard was ATX...........was a very stable system though. It wasnt deserving of a sledgehammer anyway!
im on a gateway RIGHT NOW! muwahahahaaa. got it on refurb for 500 bucks for an athlon 950 system with a top of the line 40gb HD and everything else included. quite a deal a year ago. but i never go through gateway tech support, never had a warranty as it was a refurb. i made sure that they were good parts before i bought it, not some stupid thing that was only made for a month and only for gateway (dell and compaq seem to be worse about that)
compaqs are plain out crap (hence compcrap)..... i dunno about dells.... where i work buys them and we've yet to have a problem... and they've got great customer service... sent my mom p2 233 laptop back to them even though it was out of warranty period still fixed it for free... (minus shipping to them)
I had a gateway 500 once. It wasnt a bad machine. I got the full atx case so I didnt have to deal with the horror of tiny retail cases which bake your hw
That sucks!!!! To add insult to injury... the sales Monkeys at Gateway report him to the police!!!!!! Wilke, here is the total victim! *cough* Great after sales... NOT. Gateway Sales Monkey:: "Hello Sir how can i help u? Oh your Gateway PC doesnt work? You spend $2,600 on it ?! *Grinz* You brough it back how many times?! Thats nice for you *Grinz* ..... have a nice of day *Dials 911*" *Buy Gateway PC* To straight to jail, do not pass 'GO', do not collect $200 !!!!!
i have a DELL and i hate it! it crashes on me all the time. They did not cut any more drive blanks in the front bezel other than the one that it shipped with so i cant add a burner. The modem in it SUCKs. And it came preloaded with 3 gigs of sh!t i dint need, want, or ask for. Oh yeah and they tricked my dad on the website. I told him to make sure the comp had AGP slot. Thee website said it did. We get it and it has an AGP CHIPSET!!!! Integrated 8mb peice of sh!t. I cant play any games aboce 15-29 FPS and using 3DS Max 4 is a pain on it
I've done the tech support thing, many many times (with my seprate individual peices that I used to build my computer). I even have sent the parts back to the company, but never done this! I'll remember that for later...
new dels definitely are customizable beyond all hell.... the latest ones we've been getting at work are running GF3 TIs, with SB Live!s.... 40-60gb hard drives, burners, dvds, gig of ram.. p42gigs... and the new funky cases with the green stuff inside
im gonna have to stick up for dell now as well. ive had 2 dell machines b4 i started building my own, and they are the most stable machines i have ever owned! plus the laptop range at dell is second to none, beating sony for the shear power of them!! i dont see a vaio with a 64 meg gf2 go card in em
I'm running a Hewlett Packard right now, and I'm very pleased. (minus the case) I think if I were to ever buy another premade computer, SAMS club in the US sells HPs really cheap, but I would definitely spend the $$ for a better case. The case has to be less than 5 square inches larger than the system board! I ran a gateway 2000 from 89 to 97 (486/33 with 200MB hard drive that we would never fill up!) It didn't freeze up or crash on us once, until my dad shocked it with static. (our strip that was supposed to remove static didn't work that day... ) I won't bash gateway, but I won't buy them either. (When we asked the saleman about the camera that was being offered free with a new gateway, the guy told my dad "It's yellow") -OneSeventeen GoAhead
thats the same gateway case that i have. pretty sweet, totally tool-less. not even thumbscrews, everyting is held in with green sliders. my only grips is the 2 5 inch bays, i dont have enough room for what i want to do with it. not that ill ever have enough time to get around to modding it anyway. all ive done to it was make a window and put autobot etches on it.
the first puter i bought was from a little known company called MJN, 486 that was, good puter crapy company, they are little known because the promptly when bust after i had bought my puter. The worst machines I have had to use are RM computers!! the worst i have seen inside definatly compaqs... yuk yuk passive heatsinks!!!!
