Hey, I have setup wireless in my house. Our linksys wireless-B router is on the first floor, on the right side of my house. My computer is setup, under my desk, in the basement on the left side of the house. With a firmware upgrade on the router, I get ~65% signal. I remember my friend at college explaining to me that his laptop has a wireless antenna built into the rim of the screen, thus giving him better reception.. Is it possible and/or practical to mod the antenna on my d-link wireless-B receiving card so I can increase its receiving area and amplify the signal reception? Like somehow cutting the antenna open, and placing a metal coat hanger into the end or something?

Ive seen an article where a group from NZ opened up a USB wireless, stripped the antenna on it and basically strapped a metal chineese noodle spoon (wired spoon, looked like a mini satelite dish without the central reciever) to it. The managed to get reception up to a stupid length (something like half a km) :eeek: It is possible, but i forgot the site and i dont know how todo it myself.

i believe what you mean by them stripping the usb and attaching it to a chineese noodle spoon thing is wrong unless your thinking of something else.
The link i have read on the interweb that involved a usb wireless key and a chineese noodle spoon was them basically putting the usb wireless key in the middle of the chineese spoon unaltered then just extending the usb connection. The spoon acted as a kind of satellite dish and boosted the connection something to do with the diameter which boosted the connection i dunno exactly how some technical physics stuff. But they got about half a km with that.

Yea, it was a USB wireless dongle do-dar. They stripped the plastic dongle down and hooked up the spoon to it somehow.
