+1 Dreadful game - a really expensive COD2 but with less plot, less game time, a cynical shock-value marketing level and borked multiplayer. Possibly the worst purchase I've made in the last two years.
Have to agree; XFX's advertising campaign has disgusted me out of ever buying a product of theirs. Just terrible.
A bunch of male chauvenistic crap with sperm innuendos, sleek sexy silhouettes of hot babes stood around naked, and loads of male-motivational GET MOAR HARDCORE punning. It was like being slapped in the face with a giant cock of sexism, and basically sliced their consumer bracket down to horny 13-year-olds. edit - which is a shame on reflection, because they make good coolers, by all accounts.
PC hardware artwork/advertising/branding makes more sense when you realise it's someone in Hong Kong/Taiwan marketing to a stereotypical American male consumer. It's pretty funny, actually.
I have to say, its one of the best and most memorable ad campagins I've ever seen... It has far more impact and staying power than a montage of the game, and its so tongue in cheek its rediculous..
Indeed; I'd say they're way off, but from conversations with american teenagers in online games, perhaps they're not.
Really I think it says more about the culture the ads are coming from than those they're aimed at. Most of them are just a panty shot away from being hentai.
Being of Chinese, specifically Hong Kong heritage, I can only agree with you there. Hong Kong culture borrows a lot from the American Culture and kids want to be nothing but pop superstars and rap star "niggaz" (Don't flame me for using that word please, it really is how the kids out there see themselves, quite sad really). The TV, advertising and marketing is really quite one-dimensional. Very flat and made up of stereotypes.
