I have no faith in this one either. While i've been consistently disappointed with Treyarch since COD3, Infinity Ward's games have always been solid - if you can look past MW2's utterly horrible community on all platforms. But this one... even though the foundations have probably been laid before the **** hit the fan at IW, most of the old staff is gone now and two other studios are chipping in... can't see it turning out to be anything but a clusterfork.

:\ I say let them continue making tripe, it helps to give a constant reminder to all other publishers & developers what they want to avoid doing.

That's not even the main problem. The entire franchise has been consolified and I can't see it going in back in the other direction anytime soon.

I never noticed that with COD, other than the fact that MW2 was "not balanced for lean" and of course IWnet, which were both remedied in blops. (for what that's worth...)

But he's right. Next time a cod thread is opened, the same thing will happen. All the battlefield people will come in and complain then buy the game on launch date:duh:

I'm sure if 3lusive went to the battlefield 3 thread and moaned incessantly about bf3 being a rehash then people will flame him to death. Instead, people flame him for enjoying a series he likes. It's about time a little more respect for one's opinions came about.

Thankyou. I had no intention of arguing about Cod vs BF - all I did was post a thread about some new leaked details on MW3 and it got loads of uneeded flak from idiots raving on about BF. I dont mind a bit of friendly argy bargy now and again, but its just way over the top how far people wanted to spread crap about cod here.

You're right, he's right. I didn't say that he isn't, i just find these little personal stabs counter-productive when trying to calm down a thread like this.

Yeah people who call people 'fags' for playing cod and people who post links to BF threads in a cod thread for no reason other than to piss other people off are 'idiots'.

And people who call people idiots for calling people fags are fags. This could go back and forth pointlessly forever, unless everyone just drops it. The Beast was out of line, but so are you and two wrongs don't make a right.

Theres no comparison. Atall. Period. If I went into a BF thread and starting looking for an argument for nothing, I would be an idiot trust me.

Read what he wrote. He didn't "call people 'fags' for playing cod", he said "do COD fags know what a game engine is", subtle difference there ;)

cod fags = cod players (according to that statement). And you lost any credibility when you came into this thread with a pathetic link to a bf thread. Get a life.

What comparison? Yes you would be an idiot, but what's your point? Is that your excuse to sustain a flame war in your own thread? Right, apparently i can't get a point across to you youngsters, i'll just stop posting here and let the mods clean up if they feel that it's needed.

Well firstly I'm not sure that the definition of codfag is ***, otherwise he'd have just used the word ***...

Secondly if I call you a banana sandwich that does not mean I am calling you a banana (well this is linked to the first, but hey whatever)...

Oh, I don't really mind if you don't think I'm "credible" (credible for what by the way? but that is an aside). Especially when you yourself called many people in this thread
    .

Because you lot were out of order to sprout all the hate in this thread for no reason other than you dont like cod and fancied looking for an argument. End of now.

Well since this thread has already gone way off topic (was it ever on topic?), I might as well respond to this point...

That's just because COD has such penetration in the casual market. For instance, I know so many people who, having previously shown no interest in gaming whatsoever, picked up a console with one of the COD games. They then rave about it to their friends/colleagues etc., so they buy it, and the cycle goes on. These are the sorts of people who the COD series is now targeted at (certainly more so than COD4 anyway) - those who are only interested in instant gratification gameplay with a very shallow learning curve. All they know is COD; they most probably haven't compared COD to any other games in the FPS genre, but even if they had they probably wouldn't enjoy them for the above reasons. For this reason COD is effectively the crack of the FPS videogame world which goes a long way to explaining those numbers you mentioned above. However - and crucially - none of these things make COD an objectively 'better' or 'superior' game compared with BF.

If you don't believe me, just look at the numbers for the PC platform where the number of casual players is much, much lower. There, the number of players in BF is roughly the same as MW2 or Blops, and both are eclipsed by the 7-year-old CS:S which has double the number of players of any of those games.

Your whole "argument" is based around some elitist entitlement because "casual" gamers like the series these days. This is all just a redux of the time when Halo was one of the most popular FPS's. They hate the casual fanbase so that translates to the game being the worst thing ever.

You say COD has nothing on BF but it seems that BF has been copying many of COD's popular mechanics. To list a few:

    -hot-keyed knifing *check*
    -"1-bullet" clip *check*
    - specializations which are basically perks *check*
    -hot-keyed grenades *check*
    -regen health *check*

i could even go as far as to say that BF3 is more of the same. It has a Linear and scripted campaign. MP will be the same as BF2 but with more weapon unlocks and attachments and fewer classes but it will probably still be good because not every game needs to innovate to be fun.

BTW, if you check the steam stats you will see that MW2 and Blops both mop the floor with BC2 in terms of player count.

The only FPS which seems to be really trying to innovate is Red Orchestra 2.

I don't know how you got those two things from my post. I was merely saying that the casual gaming market is inflating the statistics for COD, and that - objectively - COD wasn't a better game than BF (note that I didn't say the BF series was better, read my post again). You're also basing your comparisons on the most consolified iteration of the Battlefield series to date.

Another assumption you seem to have made is that I hate casual gamers. I don't know where you got that from, but if anything the point I was trying to make wasn't that I hate them, it's developers making compromises in their games to appeal to them that I take umbrage with. I don't even blame the developers though because that's where the money is these days, not in the hardcore market, but I still don't like it.
