Should be good event, shame it's not a standalone thing like the last one.

Also you might want to merge this thread with this one.

I didn't go to the last one, but considering it was in the carpark of a PCWorld, I think integrating it with the UK's biggest LAN event can only be a good thing

VERY expensive, no? Maybe I'm not used to paying ticket prices for a lan event. Modding is just my hobby, so the idea of spending more money on it than I do already just for entry fees would probably end me up dead at the hand of the Mrs.

Yeah, it's not cheap, but I think that's the going rate every year for the i-series LANs. Do you think they should have a Spectator Rate for the modders? I assume you feel it is expensive because you wouldn't be going to play games for 96 hours straight? :)

Naturally, any of the gamers who have a modded PC are getting double value, but you're right - if you were only going there to compete in ModFest, it could be cheaper to just go and buy yourself a third prize :)

I think they should have a one-day-only visitor's rate. I don't see myself hanging out there for four days --as much fun as it would be...

Yeah, exactly. To me, lan parties like that are just not all that thrilling (*ducks to avoid flying keyboards*). I prefer to play with just a few mates in one of our apartments. It's the modding I'd go to see, and I think that a cost like that will prohibit the modders who aren't also lan gamers.

As you say, it's a double value to those who go for the lan, stay for the mods...maybe you can even win back your entry fee. But to pay that just to be in the modding comp...well, I dunno about that.

Yeah I agree with you a car park was no place to hold such a event. But like others have said I'd go along if it was a standalone event rather than being part of a huge lan party which costs a lot to attend.

OK - I have contacted the organisers for a comment. I'd be disappointed if they didn't have something like a £15 day pass for Modders... I'll let you know what response I get

    Modfest 2005 Cancelled

Well that's a shame, but the reasons are valid. No one wants to pay loads and sit in a different area.

I just hope they come up with something alot better next time. A better location also, Newbury is a bit far down for us up northerners.

The main issue was exactly the feedback we had from you guys - if you're a modder and not interested in 4 days of LAN gaming, the £75 entrance fee was too steep. I'm sure they'll work something out for a future event - Custom PC seem keen on hosting another one.

As for Newberry being "too far south" - location is a constant issue for this type of event. The unfortunate reality is that the population density is greatest in the south east, and the i-Series LANs are the biggest in the country. You'll not likely see Modfest in Manchester for example, if that's what you're hoping for.
