.. Ok, I can't afford a 17" TFT or 21" CRT so. 2 x 17" or 1 x 19" ?? Answers on a postcard.. I know the general pros and cons for each, but I'd like to hear peoples opinions of using both generally so I can build up a better picture.. ta.
Hmmm....what u gonna be using it for? I use a 19" mainly for web browsing and gaming...nice high resolutions = pretty graphics and lots of desk space. Dual monitors hasnt really interested me...but im weird! I like Macs and work @ PC World...what do i know!
If youve got the desk space - 2x17". If you play games mostly and/or prefer to use >1600x1200 desktop then a 19" Why not a high quality 17" and a 15" LCD? best of both worlds.
Because that'd cost me the same as a 17" TFT or a 22" CRT.. which is what I wanted ideally. Use is a really tricky one, because I primarily do web stuff and graphics, but like to play games every so often and like having a high res.. conversely I've always wanted the flexibility of dual monitors.. it's a difficult choice really.
2x Sony 17" would be sweet IMO... my 17" does 1600x1200 @ 75Hz which is fine for games, yet desktop use isn't so good. 2x 1280x1024 would be nice
Refurbished Sony E-500? You get the same warranty as you'd normally get with a totally 'new' monitor. The E-500 really is a superb monitor. I'll be buying one at the end of the summer hopefully. At £386 its a steal IMHO...just a shame its not black or silver http://www.digi-uk.com
Depends what you want to do, and what the best layout of screens is consequently. A pair of Mitsubishi DiamondPro 740SB 17"s will cost you about £370. £370 will buy you an equally high quality 19", such as an Iiyama VM454. The question is what card(s) you're going to run dual screens off. The G550 and Radeon 8500 have lower speed secondary RAMDACs, so the second screen doesn't have the same res/refresh capabilities. Get yourself a decent graphics card such as a G550 or Parhelia, since high-quality screens are wasted on lesser cards (yes, I know, I want a parhelia). I think my choice would be to get a seriously good 19", and then you can always add another screen later. Look at the Sony G420 (you won't regret it once you get it), or for a bit less there's the Iiyama VM454 and the Mitsubishi DiamondPro 920. I favour Sony and Mitsubishi because they are the main manufacturers of Aperture Grille CRTs, and iiyama, CTX and many other makers use sony and mitsubishi tubes, but the best tubes are kept by the original manufacturers for their screens. So, my picks: 19": Sony G420, Mitsubishi DiamondPro 920 17": Sony G220 (expensive), Mitsubishi Diamondpro 740SB 21"/22" CRT (screen size is the same anyway): Sony E530, Sony G520, Mitsubishi DiamondPro 2060u Important to note that the E530's res/refresh capabilities are the same as the G420, but on a larger screen. The other 21"s mentioned will handle higher, but you WILL need a matrox card to make that worth your while. I use the Sony E500, often in conjunction with other screens, and it's a good screen, but the E530 addresses a couple of things that the E500 needed. The G520 would be lovely, but so much money...
That mans not a mod for no reason! He knows his hardware I can vouch for the 19" CRT option coz after you've had 19" you wont go back
I have a 19" already, but I need to "hand me down" it to my wife's PC as her monitor is on the blink. What about 2 of these:
[cartman]Must not make joke, need 40 dollers[/cartman] Those SONYs look nice, not too sure about the max res on them tho
1280x1024, but at 17" that's probably about as small as I'd want to go anyway.. it's 0.24-0.25 dot pitch tho.
Ive got one of them bloody good monitors for the price. EDIT: Forgot to mention my first sony monitor blew up but Sonys customer service rocks and I got a brand new one a day later! Nice
The sony A series are form over function. Sony's series go like this: E-series: Cheapest models in a specific size, but E430 and E220 are not well specified enough to be worth buying against the competition. G-series: High-quality models, suited to professional use. Excellent monitors, but at a price. F-series: There is no better monitor than a Sony F series. However, sony have discontinued the F400, so the SMALLEST F series is the F520R 21", at a cool £900. A-series: Premium charged for the styling, but you're getting an E-series monitor at nearly a G-series price. If you want a pair of 17"s, you could do no better than a pair of Sony G220s, but since for that money you could have an E530, that's probably too much. Thus I'd say if you want 2 17"s, get a pair of Mitsubishi diamondpro 740SBs, which have pretty much the same capabilities as the G220s, and probably well into the same neck of the woods in quality. However, if you are taking this route, as I said earlier, you need to make sure that the RAMDAC on the secondary output of your card or your second card is of similar capability to the primary, or at least capable of the res/colour-depth/refresh you want well within its limits (some cards get a little fuzzy when pushing the RAMDAC to the limit).
On a high quality and low d-p monitor 1280x1024 on 17" will look sweet, as my 17" does. I can read the screen perfectly from 3 feet... However this may be an issue from all you old guys with specs Only kiddin Kna
ok 17" are cool and 19" are cool. I've got a 19" Logix CRT, it rocks. I brought it for £190 and the 17" were at the time £160. Now the 17" are £125 save for another couple of weeks and get 2 19" CRT's. Thats the best bet. Get the duel monitor setup with two 19" CRT's.
As an "old guy with specs" I've been happy with 17" for browsing at 800x600, but with the increasing number of wider pages these days, the next monitor I buy will have to be at least 19".
