I switched my computer off and several hours later I came back to switch it on, only to find my monitor wouldn't come on. The power light wasn't even on. I've swapped power cables, noticed that when it's plugged in it's still drawing half a watt but still nothing. I checked the warranty and it's 36 months, I've had it nearly a year over that so not too bad going really. Now it seems I'm stuck back with a 1024x768 crt (driven by SLI no less!) that takes up so much room I can't even put my keyboard on the desk any more, and just when games were starting to get good again Bearing in mind that whatever I the money for it will probably be out of money that should be for rent My options that I can see are: 1: Find out from LG how much it would cost to repair and pay them plus postage 2: Open it myself to look for blown caps, buy soldering iron (could probably do with anyway), and if I can't fix it send it back to LG Does anyone have any experience with fixing monitors or getting LG to repair them? Any tips or anything I should look out for? Do you think if I couldn't fix it but didn't damage the monitor in any way, apart from maybe a couple of latches when taking the front panel off, that LG would still fix it? Is it likely to cost me more?
If you a point a light source to the LCD, do you see an image? Or is it completely dead? Did you check the DVI cable?
It's unplugged in it's box at the moment, could check later but not even the power button led comes on. Unplugged the DVI cable, didn't get the lost signal screen or anything else, should I try something else? Unfortunately nearly a year out of warranty.
I've just found loads of people selling power boards for my monitor on ebay, given that it won't switch on does anyone think this could be the cause?
Well at least the monitor didnt feel any pain and died peacefully! It must have lead a good life! God rest his soul! R.I.P
Its ok to be in denial its a natural reaction when someone close to you leaves this world but just think hes gone to a better place, monitor heaven!
Dont risk a transplant just let it go dont put it through uneccessary pain dont you think its gone through enough YOU EVIL PERSON!!!!!
I don't know how you treat your monitors but mine was quite happy, and it WILL be happy again! (again, no emoticon for crazed maniacal grin )
I treat them with respect unlike you who just wont let go. You just want to cause pain i think you get a kick out of it. Just let him go with some dignity and respect
I would say take it to a TV repair shop and ask them to see how much to fix. if it's reasonable then let them do it otherwise they should tell you whats broken hence the quote and you can try and get the parts from fleebay or LG direct. But them you need to look at how much time and money and energy you're going to need to get it replaced when you could save that and buy a new one.
At the moment time and energy is all I have to spend on it, maybe a few quid here and there, great idea though will see about getting a quote.
LG have just got back to me and they are either going to replace it if they have a spare or fix it if they don't. Possibly one of the best customer services experiences I've had, and they are even coming round to pick it up!!! It's not the first time they've replaced a monitor that could have been out of warranty for me. +3 for LG
