I know the theory, but after using it for a while it didn't seem any good to me.
Wasn't worth the weird looking colours for me, but everyone's different :)

In that case you should know that not looking at a screen in the dark(at night) does not achieve the same thing ...quite the opposite, as your exposing your eyes to even more light at a time of day when it should be dark ..the side effects being eye strain, sleep disorder etc.

Sure, if the immediate benefit isn't obvious then it's probably not for you, ..it's probably more beneficial for people that work long days looking at screens, programmers etc or anyone who suffers from screen induced eye strain.

I thought it was based on ambient light rather than purely time of day. So if it's 2am and you're in a well lit room that's no different to being in a well lit room at 10am.

I tend to spend 10 hours+ looking at a screen per day, but I (luckily I guess) don't seem to suffer from eye strain, although maybe this is why I need glasses haha.

No, I thought you knew the theory ....read up on the website lol

No. ..2 equally lit rooms, 2 screens, one screen uses flux and one doesn't ...there is no difference?

My days are more like 16 hours+ ..maybe age plays a part as screen glare didn't used to bother me, but I couldn't do without Flux now ..min brightness on your average screen just isn't low enough for me.

It says at night it makes it look like indoor lighting and during the day like sunlight, so if it's purely based on time of day rather than ambient light then surely it isn't that good?
Unless I'm missing something that seems worse than what I thought it did.

The difference being one has weird looking colours? :p That doesn't seem very good if the monitor will change look despite no change in the lighting of the room.

    Edit:
I guess you just have to tell it your level of lighting well and it will work.

I still don't get it, is it meant to be used with indoor lights on? Surely then it won't make much of a difference since the whole area is going to be well lit anyway, and if it's not, then as I said, surely having your lights on is far better?

But anyway it's getting off topic, I don't like it but others do, no harm in giving it a go :)

A nice solution is a software that uses the web cam as an ambient light sensor, and adjust the monitor brightness.

You seem to be struggling with the concept of what happens when the sun goes down, the amount of light entering your eyes should be less, your eyes have evolved as a response to the solar cycle, they/you are not designed for bright light every waking hour, it's the same reason why most people( even subconsciously ) prefer ambient or low lighting in the evening instead of trying to maintain the same light level found during daytime.

Still missing the point I'm afraid.

I know. Did you bother to read up on the website?

In addition to this: get a cat. Nothing forces you to take your eyes off the screen and your hands of the keyboard as frequently as a cat demanding your attention now.

Your cat is spookily like mine - except my cat has the half tortie/half ginger the other way :)

Yes. :) The ultimate rug for a computer room. It's an IKEA one, but they don't make them anymore.

I also have a set of these:

It's a shame it takes a nice monitor and throws it at the bin with awful colors, no real knowledge of the time and day of your region (ie: at 4pm it's pitch black here in winter, but during summer at 8pm we still have the sun), also he has 0 idea of how bright the monitor is.

    Garbage app.

You can put longitude and latitude in if you are so inclined so that really isn't true.

Everyone has stated the app is clearly not aimed at colour accuracy, nor has anyone who is interested in colour accuracy that it's a useful tool. If that's what you want, then you can disable the app with massive ease.

I'm on my fourth day now, and I think it's quite superb in terms of matching local ambience.

I have, and it screwed up all my monitor settings. Didn't revert anything back. I had to reset my settings on the monitor.
