    I'm having a weird problem.
My monitor is giving me problems, the problem is that at 800x 600 the monitor support up 85hz refresh, however at 1024 x768 the monitor only supports 60hz refresh. So now when i come to play some games the set it to theses settings, 1024x768 at 70 or 85 hz, is there a way to fix this? my monitor is a compaq mv520(Found it in the trash for free).

That could possibly be the reason why.

It's not really a monitor problem, is it? The monitor doesn't support very many resolutions and the games are trying to start with unsupported values. It seems like a problem with the games, to me. It doesn't really matter, but if you correct the title this thread may get more attention from people who can help you.

All I can come up with is to temporarily connect a better monitor and change the settings in your games to lower values, then to reconnect the Compaq monitor.

when you play the games at that resolution and refresh rate do they work? if they do then you can set windows to show refresh rates that the monitor doesn't support and select them anyway.
That may not be recommended though...

What you could try doing is manually editing the config files for the games to make them start at lower resolutions. You really have to wonder though, how difficult can it be to find a monitor which does support 1024*768? I can't remember seeing a CRT which doesn't in about 10 years tbh, surely someone you know must have one they want rid of?

the monitor can run at 1024x768 but only at 60hz.
at 800x 600 it can run at 85hz.
And the games that give trouble are these:
psychonauts (playable at 800x 600 75hz, but any resolution higher wont work, not that my pc could run it at higher resolution.)
Empire Earth ( game loads but at a unsupported resolution)

if the monitor cant run at more than 60hz at 1024x768 then there really isn't anything that you can do about that. Back when i still had a crt, trying to push it ment that it wouldn't display properly. maybe thats why it stopped working on me...
