Basically have 2 monitors (Both are Viewsonic VX922 & VX924) Plugged into my 7900GS. When i first setup my dual monitors all worked perfectly using both DVI connections.

Problem started after updating my BIOS to the latest version for my motherboard (Even tried rolling back to no avail, so im guessing this interfered with something?) My 2nd monitor stopped working.

My primary monitor works with no problems, displays the bios post and all the way through into windows without a problem. (Windows XP x64 if that would make any difference, also tried using Vista Ultimate x64, but the same problem on there) but my 2nd has stopped ever since (Strange?) and just goes into standby.

I have tried using just 1 monitor in each port of my graphics card on its own and that works fine just doesnt output from both ports at the same time, unless i use a DVI to VGA adapter on my 2nd output. The 2nd Monitor doesnt even show a bios post message unless im using a VGA cable just stays in standby mode.

Tried different drivers, reseating the card, different DVI cables etc.

Has anyone else come across this problem before, or know how to fix it as i would rather use the dvi connections.

Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated.

First of all : welcome to Bit-Tech I hope you enjoy your staying here and find every thing you want.

you said ( reseating the card ) I suppose that means change settings :) what did you do ?

Did you check Nvidia control panel and display setup ?

Or in windows right click on the desktop then proprieties then go to display and extend desktop ?

Doesnt detect the 2nd monitor anywhere unless im using a VGA cable. (strange considering i have to use a DVI adapter from the port on my card) tried all the options in the nvidia control panel and control panel itself, unless i use VGA cable my monitor isnt there.

Tried reseating my card in the PCIe slot, maybe it could have came loose when moving my pc round but to no avail.

    Thanks, hopefull i will :)

Thats the main problem i dont have another card to try and i dont have the money to get another and try that, frustrating as it all worked fine before.

*Edit* Isnt any bios settings to change, tried defaults and manually setting everything aswell. Motherboard: ALiveNF4G-DVI which is fairly old now i believe.

So, just to double-check, using your primary monitor as your only monitor works in either output on the card, right?

Does your secondary monitor also work if you use it as your only monitor (with DVI or VGA)?

If either monitor works on its own, but they don't work together, it's probably a video card problem.

What BIOS did you update? Your motherboard BIOS?
Some PC specs would help, well, Brand of GPU and Motherboard Make/Model.

The DVI port was actually from an expansion card which you plugged into a seperate slot on the motherboard, and i dont know where ive placed it, being a few years old. So i havnt tried it.

We had this exact problem a month ago with a XFX 7900 GS.
The DVI port died unless there was a DVI --> VGA adapter in use.
I think it's probably the signal chip or similar (whatever controls the specific output of digital signals) as we used two screens as well and was in the exact situation as you were.

Unfortunately, the way we fixed it (after a couple days fiddling) was to replace the card :( We bought a 9500 on the cheap.
