O.k. I just bought the following: Case: APEVIA(ASP)|X-QPACK2-BK/500 RT PSU: 500w (came with case) Hard drive: 160G|WD 7K 8M SATA2 WD1600AAJS CD Drive: COMBO LITEON|SHC-52S7K-05 SATA BK Motherboard: ABIT AN-M2 nView 7025 AM2 Processor: AMD|A64 X2 4200+ 65W AM2 1M R Memory: 1Gx2|A-DATA ADQVE1A16K R Video Card: XFX PVT84JUDF3 8600GT 256MB R --------------------------------------- My background: Build 20+ systems Computer Programmer Fixed a lot of computers in the past The gist of it all: Ok, I got the parts 2days ago. I put it all together and the system booted up fine. First thing i did was change some bio's settings: CDrom first boot Changed the splash screen to none Next I popped in Win XP Pro SP2, Install started out fine. when the computer needed to reboot, it did, and for some reason the monitor didn't come on... I held down the power button and tried again. Nothing... Things I thought was the problem, but isn't: -- Reset the CMOS to see if that would fix the problem, and didn't work. Power supply: I tried 2 different PSU's and neither of them worked for it. One of them was bigger: 600w the other one was a 500w Video Card: Tried 2 different PCI-E VC's in it, same thing, monitor wasn't receiving any signal. Ram: I bought 2 sticks of ram, tried one at a time, still nothing. I don't have any other DDR2 ram to try, so I ran out of testing on that. (First system with DDR2 ram) I removed the ram to see if the motherboard would do its Beeps. It did nothing. Monitor: Tested it with the computer I'm using now and another one that has been using it. Works fine. Processor: Checked out the processor, no burns on it, looks normal. Motherboard: All looks normal, checked it out hard core. -- When installing all hardware, I made sure to be grounded and static free. So thats where I'm at. I have no idea what I'm missing; My guess is its the motherboard, but I wouldn't think it would be. I hope I gave enough information >.>; Any help would be great! Thank You Icy
I believe the AN-M2 has an onboard video card, have you tried plugging the monitor into that to see if the BIOS decided to switch to that instead? There is no option in the BIOS to disable the onboard video card but if you want to use your 8600GT as default, set the primary display setting as PCI-E. Resetting the BIOS will have the onboard video card as default so give that a try. However, since you have mentioned that there are no beep codes, first check that your system speaker is plugged in and in the correct direction (always worth checking this as even I get it wrong ). If the CMOS reset by jumper switch didn't work, take the battery out too (if you haven't done this). If this still gives no response, strip the system to its bare components and try booting. When trying to boot, does any fans come on and are there any lights?
The normal procedure to deal with this, is PSU, Mobo, CPU (tho the last 2 often get swapped around for ease.) A lot of manufc use the insert key to clear the CMOS as well (switch off. press and hold ins, unplug, re-plug, boot wait for display, release ins). Its also advisable to try the system outside the case. put it on a bench (also a lot of people use the box).
I tried both onboard and PCI-E, I also took out the PCI-E and just tried the onboard. All connections seem to be in place correctly, I tried switching around the speaker one, and I got the same thing, no beeps >.< I tried just booting the system up with just the motherboard plugged into the PSU, to see if I could get any display. This is making my brain hurt >.< I'm going to try the CMOS trick Goly mentioned. And also just hook it up outside the case on a bench. Thanx for the help guys. I'll keep you posted of where I'm at.
Well I tried: 1 CMOS trick Goly Mentioned - Still nothing 2 Tried hooking it up outside the case - Still nothing. I'm totally lost, Do you think i have a faulty Motherboard? Any other things I can try? I don't even get the first beep from the motherboard when I boot it up >.< All fans on the motherboard and video card are working when I turn it on.
sounds like a standard mobo failure tbh. if you have a POST card you could check. Else, try RMA'ing the board.
Yeah just got an RMA number to send it back, its only 3days old lol, they should replace it. I'll keep ya posted, and Thanx for the Help Golygus & Tzang
