"Infiltrating"? I should have thought it a pretty obvious career choice for anybody whose dream it is to lord it over the lesser races, even get to state-sanctioned kill a few if they give him any lip.
They're not normally allowed in, or so I would think/hope. It's just been a bit easier for them to make it in with the recruitment push going on. At least that's what I got out of the first two sentographs. Now I know how to dodge a draft without leaving the country though
I grew up in the US military and I can honestly tell you it has been a haven for racists for a very, very long time. The military, by it's very nature, is a bastion for conservatives, and while not openly racist, there is a much larger blind eye for racist and anti-gay activities. Add to this the disproportionate number of minorities in the lower ranks and you can imagine how the white radicals cluster together in their little groups. And you can imagine how they utilize the assumed silence as tacit acceptance.
The fact is that racism can be seen in the military buy it is not the extreme bread of racism, as you said Jumeira, it is very hard to locate and root out those with extreme views about race and sexuality, expecially when they keep it to themselves or mill around with others... Though you might be able to locate extremists that will openly announce it to their peers and are not as tight lipped as others... it is much harder to locate the others, those of whch are racist and of course you can't look at them and say "(s)he's a racist" because they won't have a huge swastika tattooed on their arm or chest etc etc...
The thing is, if they're trained right, it shouldn't matter. The US army has a "Don't ask, Don't tell" policy which applies to homosexuality. With soldiers in general this should pretty much apply to all their personal beliefs. You're gonna get lefties and right wingers, libertarians and facists, neo-nazi's and I assume the odd commie. So long as they're doing their job it really shouldn't have any real impact on their life in the army. The fact that people are painting arayan nations ensignia's in baghdad just proves they're being ammaturish, and either havn't been trained right or aren't right for the army. In the army ones personal beliefs should be of absolutely no importance. The importance is being able to put those aside, and get on with the job. That's all that really matters, and that's what needs to be focussed on.
Yeah, but there is such a thing as sample self-selection. We all know that people with certain attitudes and interests gravitate towards certain career choices. Sometimes that is a good thing and sublimates otherwise rather maladaptive tendencies (it can take a slight psychopathic tendency to be a really good surgeon or business man), sometimes it's a bad thing (it can take a real psychopathic tendency to become an effective soldier). Training can change a person's behaviour and knowledge, but not necessarily his fundamental beliefs --particularly if it is easy for him to integrate the new behaviour and knowledge into his existing beliefs. Let's face it, the army doesn't exactly teach you things that are diametrically opposed to fascist uber-race thinking. When you are a tree-hugging lefty pacifist, you'll find it very hard to integrate army doctrine. But as a psychopathic fascist, it wil go down like warm honey.
spec: maybe the majority are putting aside their beliefs to get the job done (for now), but what will these hate-mongers do after they are trained and serve their tour(s)? they are being trained with weapons and explosives. they are being trained to be better organised. even the article points out the possible oucome:
i see one interesting thing, in the USA you are free to do whatever you want, be whatever you like, you have the liberty of culture and religion. so why do you dont want neo-nazis in the military? you have far worse things to worry about. a am NOT neo-nazi, i dont like them but i do tolerate them, as long as they tolerate me and dont do bad stuff. as for combat trayning i can get it even out of the military.
It's actually not just limited to Neo-Nazis. A large number of Hispanic, Asian, and Black gang members have entered into service with the sole purpose to gain the tactical and combat training it provides. A friend of mine sent me a video news clip of one such incident where a former marine (or army I forget) was a gang member and used a common combat tactic against police officers with an assault rifle. He took out one or two I believe and wounded another.
That's sort of the problem right there. The basic philosophy of fascism, the whole neo-Nazi belief system, so to speak, is one based on intolerance of others. Now the question is: do you really want to give these people expert combat training, access to serious firepower and put them in positions of power and authority? Hmmm...
One of the problems faced by the military command is that the average new soldier is reluctant to shoot people. Training is to de-humanise the enemy. Unfortunately, when in a foreign country this gets to apply to the civilian population too. "If you're not for us, you're against us". All armies are based on 'My Side' Supremacy. Maybe they're recognising the fact.
