I was working on a mod, so maybe this counts as a disaster... While looking up parts and other misc. stuff online, a mosquito flew directly into my left eye. Naturally, my eye closed as a reflex - this was a BadThing® because my eyelid squashed it. So now I have a dead mosquito in my eye. Now to make matter worse, I live in northern Arizona which currently has the highest number of West Nile Virus cases in the US - this virus is carried by mosquitos. So I crudely tried to remove what had to be the dumbest blind mosquito ever born from the bottom of my eye. It was a black wet slush and when I tried to pick it out it disintigrated into about 5 other pieces. Now, not only have I potentially unleased the West Nile in my eye, any remaining effort to 'containing' the virus in the mosquito was moot. I used a piece of tissue paper to suck some of the mosquito body parts but all day and most of the night I could see a blurry spot in the lower left side - I think this was a portion of the wing perhaps. Anyway, I hope I don't have West Nile and I hope no more blind mosquitos fly into my eye.
west nile spreads very easily because when they bite you it goes directly into your bloodstream. If it just landed in your eye you should be fine, still couldn't hurt to say hello to the doc though.
If you have one of those faucets that extend out from the main body, they make a great eyewash station. Just flip it over, turn the water on low, so you have a little column of water and gently rinse the eye. Its also good for temporary itchy eye allergy releif.
Things can pass through your eye very easily iirc, so i would get it checked out, better safe then sorry tbh 'doc
Did some research at the CDC and found that very few mosquitos have the virus. But let's say the one in my eye did...the CDC also says that less than 1% of those infected become severely ill. Given all that and the cost of doctors here - I'll take my chances and forego the doctor visit. As a side note, if I do get West Nile and become very ill, it would be the first documented case of infection through the eye - could spark a selling frenzy of 'Mosquito Proof Glasses' given how the media/corporations prey on our fears.
Except for ruining your eye. I doubt you'll get west nile though. Even if you do, it generally only has a strong effect on pretty young (like under 10) and senior citizens. I'd call a doctor and in the meantime get some eyewash.
The eye contains many blood vessels attached the the retina. If your eye was poked, you could have potentially contaminated blood entering your bloodstream. See a healthcare professional, better safe than on a slab with a toe tag.
why not just cry. even though it is quite hard to. It will surely get the mosquito out. or otherwise known as the mos-quit-o
damn, this is the stuff that makes me happy to live in belguim (western europe) We've got mosquito's here but they never seem to hit someone's eye. And even if they did, they don't carry any diseases.
Whats the West Nile Virus do ? Does it have persistent flu-like symptoms ? If so it sounds a lot like the one we have in the land of Oz. Here its called Ross River Virus
well i lived in hawaii (until i moved here in cali just recently) and it was sworming with mosquitos considering that its a tropical forest and there was a time where a mosquito went into my ear when i was half-a-sleep and i reacted by slapping my ear. the next morning i remembered and found this scab in there and its still there after a year...
you need to sterilise your eye. take a soup spoon, press it against the left corner of your eye, and gently press, with luck you should scoop out the eye in one fluid motion. then simply boil for 25 minutes in vigorously boiling water. then polish eye, and re-insert. *sniggers* only kidding but damn dude, mosquito in your eye? get a cap and mod some pc fans onto its sticky out bit. they will keep you cool when its hot, and mince any incoming mosquitos in their whirling blades of insectile death. (do not scoop out your eye with a soup spoon.... use a teaspoon)
Ew. and I thought accidenty swallowing bugs was bad. actually once my little sister was laughing really really hard and a grasshopper somehow went up her nose and came out her mouth. it was dead btw.
