Rant Most lopsided dl/ul ratio ever!! aka How fast is YOUR internet?

EDIT: Just for you guys, when I reached 0.75Mb/s it was the best day in my life. Period.

 

Ypu think thats bad, check out mine, the DL is much bigger than the UL...

Nope, but I could convert my flat into one... Its private studio flats and there 100 flat, of which 6 are occupied, and it seems its sent me all the bandwidth...

That seems to be what I'm getting during the day. The speed picks up in the evening. I'm staying behind later today to try sort some stuff for traveling flying to the UK tomorrow after work so I'll try do another speed test and see if it's faster.

 

It's hovering around the same as before but I think it has something to do with the current intranetwork traffic. The one of the particle accelerators where I work is currently running full tilt and spitting out a f**ktonne of data over the network to various research stations.

 

So you work at the PSI? Are you a particle physicist or tech support? No offence intended! That is a ridonculous amount of bandwidth. There must be a fiber connection all the way from the distribution center to the Institute. We don't have that sort of infrastructure here

 

I'm cheating as I am at work and everyone has gone home.

Also, I think the POP is in the same building as our data centre .

Bear in mind that I am in Herts at the moment so all traffic from this site is running to the co-lo in the city, then out via the co-lo POP. I have no idea how much other traffic is on the link as I don't have access to that stuff, I stopped being a hands on techie at work a number of years ago.

Also, I just noticed the date. The speed shown in my previous thread is not from me running the speed test! It must of been someone else on site here as well all share the same IP.

I'll run it again now and post that particular test.

the best ups/downs i could manage. the server nearest me actually have me the crappiest down of all at around 9mb/s...sad.

It's one of the most advanced proton therapy gantrys in the world. It uses a pencil beam of protons and a spot scanning technique developed here to irradiate deep or inoperable tumours with minimal damage to the surrounding tissue. Unlike photons which deposit most of their energy on the skin and tissue before the tumours, protons deposit most of their energy when they stop.
The gantry itself weighs over 200 tonnes thanks to the bending magnets that allow the beam to be controlled. It is able to move and track tumours that are mobile (i.e. on the lungs)

But yeah, silly amount of bandwidth

It's usually slightly better than this, but yeah this is what I have to deal with.
