ok the story is, i just got home from work an hour ago. when i got in a walked into the basement and my computer and stereo were sitting there at the bottom of the stairs all unplugged and semi-packed up. my little brother who was still awake said she got pissed because i left a lamp on and it almost burnt down the house or something (exaggeration) and because all of the stuff she calls "crap" that i have put in my computer . anyways i opened up my comp to put in a new pretty rounded cable for my floppy drive, picked up my computer set it on her desk and plug in her monitor, keyboard etc. to make sure my floppy drive worked. when i press the power button my computer turned on and everything but no picture came up on my monitor (but the "no signal" message did not appear"). i checked the cables and such everything was plugged in properly. i even plugged in my monitor and the same thing happened, no picture but no "no signal" message. can someone please make a suggestion to what could be wrong. thanks in advance for the much need help.
different monitor? kinda sounds like you have the resolution set too high.. do you not get any boot info? I hope it's that simple... Vazz <edit: just saw you tried on your monitor. hmm I haven't had that problem before>
well 2 minutes ago i had that and my beutifull crucial 512 mb 2700 ram went up in smoke littaraly i could see the smoke and smell the burning now its ****ed and so is my ddr slot luckily i have 1 more slot does anyone want to donate a piece of ram as this is the only one i have cause i gave one to my dad
knife attack... EDIT: oops it was late at night and i really should have gone to bed sucks about the mobo though.
First, slap your mom and tell her to leave your damn computer alone! Second, try reseating the video card. Or at least give it a good push.
nice relationship you and your mother must have. Sounds like someone who will remain nameless dropped the case. Try resetting all the 'detachables' such as cables, PCI / AGP cards, IDE cables etc.
well. i have tried 2 differnt moniters, same thing on both. and i have an on board video card *hangs self* (still saving cash to by something half decent) so i can't really "give it a good push." and i know it's not the resolution. i get no boot information or anything the screen stays black. i think i'll just tell mother she has to take it in get it fix or w/e and pay for it. maybe i'll juice a free video card out of her for my emotional trama
Check the connector for VGA for broken off pins. Explain nicely to your mother that you're sorry about whatever pissed her off and you'll be more concious of it in the future. Then explain that it will not power up anymore and something likely broke when she moved it. Play it by ear from there. you'll get more flies with honey than vinegar, ya youngin!
ohh tahst to easy, take her credit card order everything new, then give her your old computer and tell her you brak it, you just baught it, simple she goes skit, you go skit back
shes ur mum ffs without her u wudnt b here so u wudnt have it anyway....u pissed her off she pissed u off....equal
i dont agree with that. ifn anyone in my faomily broke m computer i would expect them to pay for what they damaged, however if it is still under warranty return what you can for new ones. it sounds like the mobo is shot, have you tried clearing the cmos? i dont understand why the resolution would change if the computer was just moved, why would a different monitor make a difference? since the computer is not posting (bootlog) it is either a problem with the mobo or the vid card. when you turn it on listen to see if the hdd spin up, if thats the case then the onboard video is probably the problem try an older PCI video card to see if that helps, if thats not the problem i would start looking into a new mobo (Athlon64) ooh one more idea, check to make sure your processor is seated correctly, if the computer was handled rather harshly it is possible that the processor or ram became unseated.
Heh... yeah very nice She gets pissed easily. Erm.. slight understatement there. "Your computer makes noise, turn it off". Loudest thing in my case is a zalman heatsink at half spin. It's about as loud as breathing (and my pointing that out wasn't a great idea, nor was my suggestion of "Ok, I'll just stop breathing then, as that's too loud for you" Actually, she liked that idea. It was my earplugs idea that got her going, even though it actually was a good idea) But, I've never slapped her. Only because I'd get knifed in my sleep. I like that one Problem is that she'll report an unauthorized charge and probably throw you out of the house.
well i have 1 pice of advice for u once ypur mother gets pissed easily. DONT SHOUT OR GET ANGRY. i dont get angry and if my mother dose somthing she pays for it, but with my bro once he gets angry she dose something worse to him and makes him pay for everything. (i like it when my mum shouts at my bro coz hes an ASS HOLE )
rotf sounds like a time my sister goes and messes with my computer while I was downstairs workin on puttin a new fan on my heatsink... ZACH... uhh your computer won't turn on... I think I started cryin right there Well thats okay Brianna... cuz moms now buyin me a nice 3.4cghz Thank god my mom is understanding. However, in your situation, do you have a speaker plugged in... as in PC speaker? if its beeping, your ram's bad. However, I think it may be both your ram and your video card. Just talk to her and try to reason with her.
Ouch..introduce her to the bit-tech site - just don't let her near your computer with that dremel in her hand!
Does the computer POST? make any beeping noises? I suggest re-seating everything, make sure that she didn't bump the voltage switch on your powersupply. If you can try to switch out the graphics card.
I had the same problem w/ my friends and my computer. I just took it apart and put it back together all correctly and it worked, then my friend did the same and it worked also... i dunno just try that dude.
that always works for me too, except when i put it back together, i always end up with a few trival parts (screws) left over, and think "where did they come from?"
