Yea, mods please move this thread. But I will have to agree. At this current time the Core 2 processor and motherboard are going to be your best bet. Just make sure your getting good ram to complement the setup.

Core 2 Duo is a must, but a mid-range motherboard will do fine.

We don't know what RAM you have currently or graphics. If you don't have DDR2 and a PCIE graphics card you'll need to budget for those aswell.

I talked to him and he says that he maybe want to go for one of this:
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ 2.4GHz Socket AM2 1MB, BOXED
    OR this one
    INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6600 2.4GHZ 4MB 1066MHZ S-775

So the question is: Is the AMD or the intel the best choice?

Anyway the AMD setup costs less (not much) and it has to be PCI-E ram doesn't matter as he will buy new ones wich isnt included in this budget.

This mobo for the intel: ASUS P5ND2 NF570 SOCKET
This mobo for the AMD:ASUS M2N4-SLI NF4 SLI SKT-AM2 ATX

not the best mobo choice on the intel setup...seems like something he/you is stuck on...no one recommended that, but he/you keeps bringing it up, so just go with what ur gonna go with.

Don't forget a power supply. A good Seasonic will be no prob.

I'd suggest the Asus P5N-E mobo instead

asus p5n-e sli...seems to be the best board, even if he isnt in to overclockin...for the money. you have people talking about getting this board over an asus striker...which is saying alot.
