I wanted to make an IR reciever that plugs into the IR headers on a motherboard. but I can still use a COM port device. I have seen lots of schematics on the net, but they all use the TSOP17xx which maplin dont do, and i will have to buy the parts from there. Anybody know how to knock one together?
Its fairly straight forward, what your doing is taking the already serial data n whack it to a infra-red diode. Problem is with the "wide" voltage range RS-232 uses. If you already have schematics that you know work with your mobo. Why on gods green earth do you have to buy from maplin!? its not as if the component cost is going to be more than £2 anyway!
You can replace the component with an equivalent component/circuit. What that component does is filter out any foreign signals that are not in its stipulated modulated gamut. A repalcement for it could be this: clicky Just adjust your transmiter to the right modulated frequency range you have it.
It is not the serial IR device, that allows remote use, that is needed here it is the IrDA Motherboard header type that allows IrDA peripherals such as phones, laptops, printers, PDAs, etc... The part you nedd is TFDS4500. Have a look at my site and look under the IR links. I have info about bothe the IR serial connector and IrDA motherboard header. RS nolonger sell TFDS4500 but I think you can get it from Farnel. Meblin
