    I got reduced from £750 to £450

Sat on a few bikes still the new yamaha mt09 looked cool.

R6 looks look cool there was a cool mini moto track but missed the some of the talks. couldnt find a bike cover for under a fiver which was another thing looking out for.

    Need a little help guys.

Recently bought my first big bike, an 02 Bandit 600, i posted a pic a short while back.

Now the problem is when the bike is running (obviously :D) and i rev the bike either standing or accelerate when moving the thing stutters for a bit, then opens up and goes like hell, well it goes like hell in my eyes

I have checked the plugs and ran a fuel cleaner through the tank but no difference and this has me baffled, i know very little about engines or what to look for

The bike idles nicely around 1300 and sounds nice, no misfires, but rev it and stutter stutter and then revs fine, this happens hot and cold

Any of you come across this before and can maybe point me in the right direction

    Many thanks :thumb:

Sounds like the fuel system isn't responding quick enough to changes in throttle angle. Could be that the ECU is faulty (or one of the various sensors) so has resorted to some backup program. Quick check to see if there aren't any fault codes coming up might not be a bad idea (I'm assuming most bikes use the same OBD as modern cars use).

Thanks for the reply, this is something i will look into, i wasn't even aware you could check the ECU.
I only hope whatever the problem might be is cheap enough to fix, it does not stop me riding the bike in any way but annoys me anyway

    Thanks mate :thumb:

I seriously doubt it being an ecu thing, since all the 600 bandits had carbs, right? I didn't think that ecu's controlled carbs, but I could be wrong. I thought the whole idea of carbs was that there was just a vacuum system that let more or less air/fuel through depending on how open the throttle was.

As for the problem, I wouldn't know. My old CBR didn't stutter as such, but if you were violent with the throttle, it took a second to catch up- you could be used to FI bikes and you might not expect the difference in response? With the CBR the best way was to be smooth on and off the throttle.

I could be talking out my arse, but that's my idea.

2002 bandits were carbed (i think) so i'd check the simple stuff first - check the air filter isn't clogged/dirty and that you've got no air leaks anywhere.
Sounds more like it'll be carb related to me though - probably just need a good cleaning, jets setting correctly if they aren't (aftermarket exhaust fitted?), and re-balancing :)

I didn't realise it was a 2002 bike. Thought it would be fuel injected. :duh:

As you describe it Mr Happy, it sounds like it's running rich, but with carbs there's a few things which can add up to give poor running.

A bit of a google says the bandits of this series are the devil's medium - carbs for fuel, ECU for spark. That means you could have a fault in either, or both systems - if the ignition isn't advancing properly you'll find the same bogging, then sometimes clearing up further up the rev range.

Give the carbs a tune up, then try again. You could also try a Gunson Colourtune, which is a great piece of kit (although it takes a bit of work to get to know it).

The YBR125 is basically the CG125 except less long-term reliability, slightly less fuel-efficient and faster, hitting about 70mph where the CG hits about 60. (Source: current bike of over 6 years is a CG125.) The CG is pretty slow, even for a 125 - that's how it manages to get 120mpg

The YBR will sell on easily and is quick enough, just get a low mileage example. They don't last very well.

Thanks so much for the info guys, i will get looking into cleaning the carbs, and making sure the mixture is OK.

The bike does have an after market exhaust already fitted when i bought the bike, not my cup of tea but he did not have the original
Would the exhaust give many problems?

Usually you need to change jetting/map altered slightly to run properly with a different exhaust

So, I'm picking up my new bike tomorrow! I shall be riding most of the way round the north circular in the pissing rain on a bike I've got no experience of. Should be fun. I am genuinley looking forward to being back on a bike after so long off. As a bonus, insurance seems way cheaper than before. I'm fully comp now, on an SV with 1 declared accident, and my premium was £988, with a £200 excess. all mods declared as well. I'm reckoning this year will be fun.

Went for my first ride of this year today. Can't wait for the warmer weather and sticky roads! Two up so wasn't zooming as much as I'd like but it was still fun. Well, until I encountered some floods. I slowed down to drive through, but some arse in a car decided to speed up as he went past me... Really nice of him.

Still, zoom zoom. I love my SV! :D

    EDIT: More like ROAR ROAR!

Wow, they seem pretty much perfect for my needs!

If I can find somewhere to keep it, I can use it for a bit of commuting to uni as well. Unfortunately all the parking here is on the road outside. :waah: Is there anything I can do in this situation to mitigate risks / make my insurers happier?)

Not exactly a thief magnet but: cover/disc lock/decent chain minimum, preferably chained through the frame to something immovable. Basically: make it enough of a pain in the ass that no one will bother

Lampost okay for that? Might feel a bit bad about dumping it in the middle of a perfectly viable parking space though.

Lamppost's fine, aye. Biggest risk to a 125 is probably being kicked over by drunken chavs
