I think this might be a better "makeshift garage"?

Depends, how large are your testicles and how postal are you going to go when you drop it?

Don't get me wrong, it's doable, but it's a hell of a risk for very little gain assuming you're doing it for security reasons

I'd set up some CCTV, so you at least get £250 off Harry Hill when it does go wrong

That would certainly keep the elements off the bike, but it's the little thieving buggers with bolt croppers, or the group of men throwing them in the back of the van I'm worried about.

Got it, will look into other options.

Can confirm, CCTV is already in place to catch the moment.

If you could keep the bike totes secret then a van isn't a bad shout and will protect from drive by nosey sods.
But you'll be riding it to and from, have it on the drive cleaning and working on it, and then I just don't see that a van offers any more protection than a good ground anchor and chain combo

Honestly, if someone is determined enough to steal your bike then no security will be enough to stop them. I don't want that to sound like I'm putting you off, but the best you can do with security is make it as difficult as possible for people, make it so they have to make a lot of noise or take a long time doing it.

Like @mrlongbeard says: Get a good quality chain and padlock. Install a ground/wall anchor, if you can (a ground anchor is no good on tarmac); if you can't do that then make sure the bike is chained/locked to something suitably immovable - fence post, railing, etc. A tracker might be a good shout, but it isn't really going to help you if they've already ragged the bollocks out of the engine/gearbox, or driven it into a wall. If you can't put up a storage shed or similar then get a cover - it'll keep the rain off and it'll avoid opportunists driving past and going "ooo, nice bike, I'm having that". An alarmed disc lock is also good shout, and makes for an easy to carry security device when you're out and about. Although do yourself a favour and make sure you get a reminder cable for disc locks, because otherwise you almost certainly will try to drive off with the lock still attached; I did that twice and had to fork out just shy of £400 to get the front brake bracket repaired.

Someone did try to steal my first "proper" bike, and although they left it dumped on the drive they'd already caused enough damage for the insurance to consider it a write off (bike was almost brand new and on PCP, so really had to go through insurance because of the guaranteed future value thing). Since then I've started chaining up the bike to a fence post and I have a CCTV camera overlooking the drive; touch wood, I haven't had any other issues since.

I would definitely look at the storage units/temporary garages you can get as Fingers has posted above instead of bodging it in a van, that's got disaster written all over it! Have heard good things about the Asgard ones.

Don't forget the Rockets are very heavy (nearly 300kg dry), so it'll be difficult to move about anyway.

<looks at 320kg Honda Pan European and cries>

Like with any big bike, once you're moving that weight disappears... but moving it about on the drive is a right pig!

If I ever drop that thing, it's very unlikely I'll pick it back up!

Looks at 300kg Harley, oddly going backwards is easier than going forwards when pushing it about

28° rake angle will do that! In reverse the stabilising geometry aids maneuvering.

Byrons right , if someone wants it ... they will take it. I use a chain around the rear swinging arm and padlock sits right on top of the seat so no way to put a hammer to it . Disc alarm on the rear and not the front as its easy to pick the front of the bike up , i use a Kryptonite U lock on the front wheel. Ive no drive so have to park on the road.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Probably over worried due to past experiences, in 2016 I owned a KMX 125 for the total of 3 days which was stollen out of a locked court yard chained to a ground anchor which I hadn’t insured yet, replaced it with a R125 in which I experienced what trying to ride with a disk lock still attached feels like, luckily no major damage on that occasion.

Seeing the bike in person, yeah that's not going in the van. I'll get some big chains, anchors, alarmed disc and we're moving house in September anyway so an garage will definitely be a requirement instead of just a driveway. In the meantime it can sit in an StormProtector.

    Thanks everyone!

Look at Almax (good chains, shoddy delivery) or Pragmis, get the biggest that'll go through the wheel

Finally got it home! Was very nervous about riding it but it seems totally tame in rain mode!

[cries because bike is off the road]

My MOT expired last Sunday and I didn't call the dealer soon enough to get it booked in. Called them on the 2nd of this month and they couldn't fit me in until the 7th of June :waah:
