I didn't realise the ER-6F and the Ninja 650R were the same bike...oops. Regardless, fairing = sky high insurance premiums.

    Brought it over here :p

Yeah, thinking of fairing less, seeing as what you've stated in this thread about prices being high.

You got any ideas about what bikes they're struggling to shift, or is it a case of it depends on where you are? Like some bikes sell well, others not so much? Because if I can get a half decent job, I would probably consider finance.

As for matte white? Bluegh :p I'll have a matte black one, goes with everything :p

I just had a look at the CB500S (faired version of it) and the insurance is identical, so older, more basic faired bikes could be a possibility.

Not too sure about what sells quickest, I've heard SV650s sell fast though but I honestly don't know about other bikes.

Good luck not being seen, you'd be amazed how invisible you become when dressed in dark clothes.

    Perhaps this'll change your mind..?

Yamaha have a fair few 0% deals on. If I was to get a new bike it'd be the XJ6N, 0% over two years or 2% over three. One of my friends passed his mod 2 a few weeks back and bought one new (free restrictor kit too!) and he absolutely loves it; looks the bees knees too. I would consider it, but I would likely go into severe depression if I dropped it, regardless of the lack of fairing :p

Also, something to bear in mind, seeing as you'd be turning 21 you might be able to get cheaper insurance than I could simply because of your age and supposedly being less risky, but we all know that's not true. :hehe:

Out of interest, has anyone tried one of these airbag jackets? The ones that autodeploy when you're thrown from the bike (BBC article)?

That XJ6 looks incredible! Love the non-faired version! And that's pretty cool, although by the time I'm buying the bike, I may well end up looking at the 2012 line up. I'm pretty sure they'd sell used bikes? Like Vauxhall do? Maybe finance on one of them :/ *ponders*

Yeah, turning 21 should help a lot. Fingers shall be crossed!

There's sometimes finance on used bikes, just isn't usually as good as it is on new bikes. However, you might be able to get the model from the previous year for cheaps...well relatively. For example, the Yamaha MT-03 which I also looked at costs ~£7.5k but the previous year model would cost me £5300.

Hmmm, worth considering then. Just looked at the MT-03, looks slick!

I'll have to have a proper think about whether I get a new bike on finance, or see what I can do for a 2nd hand bike. But if I can realistically afford the payments for a new one, I'll most definitely be doing that.

It's a gorgeous little bike, the position is amazingly upright too. Only issue is its top end power, or lack thereof. Sadly it's a lot of money for it too otherwise I'd prefer it to the XJ6.

My plan is to get a CB500 or something like it for a year, maybe two, then buy a bike I'd really like once I get my no claims bonus, and, more importantly, some experience. Then again, my friend who got the XJ6 said that then went out and got that...

Haha, yeah, I've wanted a lent over riding position, but I've had back issues from slouching and the like, a more up right one would probably do me much better.

As for top-end power? Hmmm, I won't be racing, just want it to be able to pull off the line nicely. Really liking the look of the Yamaha bikes atm! And as for no-claims? I should have done this 2 summers ago >.<

For twisty roads the MT-03 is great, but for anything motorway it struggles a bit. Upright position means a lot more drag on the rider putting strain on your arms and neck, and the lack of top end power means it doesn't sit happily at 80mph+, plus the wind blast would become unbearable after that anyway I imagine.

That said, if it was cheaper, I'd be buying one straight off. It's just too funky looking. :p

Hmmm, well next year (academic), I won't be doing much motorway travelling, purely because I'll be in my own house (not halls). And won't be visiting home, if I do, mum can come pick me up :p Longest distance would probably heading London way, but from Portsmouth it's 90% A3, so hopefully not too bad.

I don't really want a bike that'd would be pushing itself at above 80mph, something that'd sit the happy as larry would be nice, guess the XJ6 fits the bill? I've looked at the Street Triple (and the Speed), they look pretty damn nice as well.

Hm, well if you can afford it, the MT-03 is a good bike, don't think Yamaha are doing finance on it at the moment though :(

There's a half faired XJ6 too which would be a good middle ground for any sustained high speed. Friend who has the N and has it restricted got it up to 90MPG the other day without noticing, and that's only on 33bhp!

Street Triple *drool* My dad has a Sprint ST 1050, all Triumph bikes are amazing!

Hmmm, well maybe when it comes to buying, they may be. I'll have a look at the half faired XJ.

90MPG is incredible! (Stick that in your pipe Prius!). If Triumph aren't that expensive (in regards to finance), I'm going to have a real problem deciding. Love the Sprint ST, gorgeous bike!

I think it was mainly due to the restriction though :p That said they normally do up to around 70MPG or so. Even the old CB500 does that, love bikes!

If you can get a Triumph, DO IT. My dad hasn't had a single bad word to say about his. Been on the back of it and boy does it move.

He also has a 1900cc Yamaha Midnight Star cruiser. It's shocking, in a good way.

Haha, it'll all depend on funds though.. fingers are VERY crossed!

Bikes I honestly think are the way forward. Stupidly high MPG (even scooters...)

    EDIT:

    :O

Yamaha XJ6 review. Looks like I'll have this one, under £5500, I should easily be able to afford that over a 3 year finance agreement... I must haz!

    Hey Krikkit,

I just re-read the manual and it says first oil change / servicing after 1.000km , but after that just every 5.000 km (or after every day at the track) !! So it is looking quite a bit better !! :) . So for the mileage I would be getting, that should add up to about oil change every season of riding, that sounds very reasonable to me. I will probably change the oil more frequently but it is good to know I can put off the other maintenance till the winter break.

Already called for an appointment at the dealer on friday to take one of these babies out for a test drives! oooh can't wait.

Both the new XJ6 and XJ6 Diversion have been getting fantastic reviews.

Although I still want a Fazer...

Got my CBT booked for a week on Wednesday and my first proper lessons the Friday following. Theory is booked for the Tuesday after! Lots on in a week! Excited to finally be getting somewhere though. Original CBT expired due to a lack of funds to pursue proper training. Boo... :D
