ok, i've just started to mod a case (i don't know exactly what it is but its damn fine! its a CUBIX branch office thingy.) I want to mount an MB in it but it obviously doesn't have any sort of MB header things, so i need some suggestions on how to mount it. ANY help will do. Thanks AoD:dude:
Go to a local electronics store and buy some standoffs. Unless you have a tap and die set and spare rod laying around.
I assume you mean it doesn't even have any screw holes for standoffs either. This is just my idea i have never done this before. buy some of the little brass mb standoffs and dremel off the threaded part that screws into the case. Take a piece of cardboard and put it behind the mb, mark on it with a pencil where the screw holes are, make sure you fill in the entire hole with pencil so you know that it will be centered, if you just put a little mark in each hole they will be off center. Then drill holes in the cardboard through the pencil marks, and using the cardboard as a template, use JBweld or some other epoxy for bonding metal to secure the standoffs to the case.
Thanks for help, its been very useful. To answer a few questions 1. MB headers are standoffs (couldn't remember what they were called!) 2. Obviously there are no screw holes for the standoffs 3. I don't have a spare motherboard tray. All your suggestions have been very helpful so i'll report back once i've solved the problem. Oh, one more bit of info, its a desktop case (but very big & cool) I'm finished yapping for now. Thanks for the help. AoD :dude:
When I've been designing my custom cases they've usually been quite thin so I marked the position off on the 'case' where I wanted the mobo with a pencil then just dremeled right the way through and used m3 screws bolts and washers to secure it maybe not as pro looking as some things though, depends what sort of custom case you're doing
right then, i've mounted the board. So you wanna know how i did it eh? Kept it simple (just like me!) i drilled holes for the standoffs super super glued them in place and just screwed the board in as normal. And if you're wondering if the MB is secure, from my testing it seems to be. Anyhow thanks for the help. AoD:dude:
