Just curious what folk are using to check core temp with the Senfu? I've clipped as much plastic as I dare from the front, pushed it up against the short end of the core and stuck it down to the core ceramic with Magic tape. Still reading very low (36C at load, MBM5 over 50C). Any tips before I try again?
i just shoved it under my swiftech and i get 25.7 from that atm and 30.1 from my mobo moniter so i assume my cpu is approx 27ºC
No, MSI Turbo LE. Messing with the Senfu, it twice lifted the Taisol 760 HS slightly, I found it was resting on the rubber insulation. No way can the probe be just pushed in like bindibadgi did. Second time found the core at 70C when MBM appeared in the tray, so after I'd changed my trousers & re-installed the sink I gave up till I've modified the probe.
i read this mod at a site once where they shaved of some of the plastic on the cpu mounting socket and then were able to put their probe right underneath their cpu core, where its supposed to be....ill try and find a link if ure interested....
found it....its with voidyourwarranty.net....so.... http://www.voidyourwarranty.net/review/review.php3?r1=socketmod/index.php3 have fun....tell me if ure gonna do it....i was tooo scared....
I saw that a few weeks ago on Ars forum and thought it was a joke till I visited the site. I think it comes in front of HDD window for risk factor So the answer is - cluck, cluck.
lol....u could of course try cutting a hole throught the cpu to get the temperature.... a mate of mine who did not know too much about these things stuck his underneath his heatsink (fop38) and it worked fine, but then he tried doing it again with his taisol 670 and it didnt work and the gap it made started raisin temps....so i guess it depends on the heatsink... do u not trust mbm or more the onboard reader???
I hope you mean heatsink... Just fancied the extra eye-candy on the cpu fan controller. Now it's just reading 22C case temp. I've got some thin-walled heat-shrink, will try again
As in answer to your earlier (mobo) question Taisol 760, stock fan undervolted to 8.25v, 3880 rpm and now a very quiet system.
very good hsf, used to own one meself, the only problem is that is uses all 3 plastic notches to clip on on either end of the cpusocket, therefor it has a lot higher pressure....im not sure wether u wanna risk sticking a thermal probe underneat that and the core...i thought that getting it right close up to the actual core should work and give u the right temp as long as u use some thermal paste....
Not really, the spring isn't overpowerful and its less likely to break a socket lug off like some disaster stories I've heard Very easy to put on or take off, once you've got the knack (and I've had lots of practice the last few days) Er, no.
I've been at this too with my digital doc, as it has a couple thin temp sensors.. I think I could do it with my zalman, since the very corners of the core arn't making total contact, but since i got a shim in there it lifts the sink too much.. guess i'll just trust the onboard sensor.. they need to start putting a hole in the mobo under the zif for this sorta thing..
