I've been recently encountering issues with my mouse intermediately disconnecting for a second or so then reconnecting, which of course freezes my cursor temporarily each time. Sometimes I'll get the token disconnect/reconnect sound but the majority of the time its silent. The issue primarily occurs when I'm running MW2 or photoshop but happens outside of those as well. The mouse itself is still seemingly good, as it works fine on my laptop, so I think we can remove failure from the equation. I have a feeling it might be a driver issue, but the mouse is so damn old (GE 97769) I don't think they exist anymore. Any ideas? I'm running Vista Ultimate 64,(SP 2). Q9550, 8GB RAM with a HD 4850 Toxic. One of the more logical options would be to buy a new mouse, but I really like the ergo's and layout of my current one, so I'd like to find a possible workaround before I give it up. TIA.
i've seen this before, i had a mouse that did the exact same thing and i narrowed it down to the cable... due to the mouse moving a lot (obv.) the cable can become loose on the connector to the mouse
I had a similar issue with my keyboard the other day - turns out the total number of things plugged into my USB's was drawing too much power and the highest draw device (G15) was cutting out. You using alot of USB devices, or a low quality PSU?
It could be a loose cable as stated above or a loose usb plug connection to the motherboard. Maybe you could also check the above as well.
I had this same problem with my Logitech MX Revolution, I ended up buying a new mouse. Was running Windows 7, problem continued regardless of USB port. Only happened when gaming though, which was mightily annoying. Never tried re-installing the drivers though. May work for you. You could try installing the chipset drivers again, as that should do the USB port drivers as well. Could be an issue with them.
MY PSU should be handling everything fine (OCZ GameXStream 850). I have three external HDDs hooked up via USB, which are only on when needed, as well as my mouse and keyboard. I've heard of issues regarding IRQ assignments for the Graphics and USB controllers--perhaps that's it?
If the mouse had a loose cable it would have the same issue on my laptop, which it doesn't. As for the loose USB connection, wouldn't my other devices disconnect and reconnect at random as well? I've tried multiple USB slots for the mouse, they all do the same thing.
It seems to happen more often when I'm running a program, as opposed to browsing the internet, where it does happen but not nearly as frequently.
