    Hi all,

    my Logitech MX Revolution is starting to get a bit stuttery, I think this is due to the desk surface having quite a few small holes in it :D and the crap it picks up off my desk as I wire light fittings most days.

    Does any one still use a mouse mat? If so what do you use? Not really sure what to go for!

    I use a Razer Sphex! Very very thing, not much good if you move your setup around lot as it sticks to the desk, but its very thin and a very good surface for FPS. (oh and its cheap as chips)

    My Amazon Review

    "My situation is that I don't have a huge amount of deskspace but play a lot of games so wanted a mouse mat for them. Lets first get out of the way what kind of difference a mouse mat makes. Wow, I had no idea. My mouse drifts across the surface like its hovering on a cushion of air. I use a Sidewinder X5, and the difference is not just perceptible but striking. I can't tell you anything about my K/D ratio improving or anything like that but it definitely makes a difference.

    So, onto the mouse mat in hand, the Razer Sphex. Well the first thing you'll notice about it is how thin it is, barely thicker than a sheet or two of good quality paper. I cleaned my desk surface (fake wood), before putting it down, and its stuck there ever since with no movement. I'm not sure how it clings on, and it might not be good for those of you who regularly move your mouse mat around. Because of how thin it is, my keyboard can sit on top of it without any wobbling or tilting. It also looks pretty cool, if aesthetics are important to you. The surface itself appears to be a rough plastic, and as previously mentioned, makes using a mouse a joy.

    To sum up, I'd say the Sphex is good for anyone who wants to improve their gaming, needs a thin mouse mat, doesn't want to spend the earth, and doesn't move around too much. "

    I'm not sure if they're still one sale (mine was a freebie anyway), but a Razer Exactmat is pretty good from my personal experience;

    It is double-sided too, one surface is designed for grip (I prefer more resistance) and the other is for speed. Worth checking out, it's the only mat I've used in years aside from a piece of cardboard - I was even playing competitive FPS at a high level using it :lol: - and a el-cheapo cloth job from a pound shop.

    Guess it's all a matter of preference.

    +1 for the Razer Sphex here. So nice to use. I won't repeat what Parge said, but it's all spot on.

    Despite the name sounding like is was specifically chosen to appeal to 13 year olds, I use a nice big Cyber Snipa (I really do hate the name). It's pretty huge but really comfortable and works like a dream with my G5.

    Its gone up by nearly £5 for some odd reason but it's worth a look if you can find it for £10.

    Thing about mousemats is that almost any surface that isn't a desk or one of those 1990s foam-based mats will be a huge improvement, paying over £15 would be mad. Sphex sounds interesting, thanks.

    I've got a steelseries I-2 which I have to admit is a little expensive for a mousemat, but my last rubber mat (a QPad mousemat) decided to start melting onto the desk, it wasn't fun, so I went something more durable.

    Anyway the I-2 looks great (black frosted glass) and performs well (it's very accurate) but it is quite loud, there's a scraping/swishing sound as you move the mouse. You get used to it (I don't notice it anymore) but some would find it annoying. It also gets quite cold, which is nice in summer, but in winter it could be a bit unpleasant. I do think it was worth the money though (I wanted aesthetics as much as performance).

    Steelseries 4HD in use here. Very thin, comfortable texture with very little drag and very durable.

    I'd also recommend the SteelSeries QcK mats, they're very cheap, durable and have great glide.
