I need to consult the knowledge-base that is Bit-Tech.

I currently have an Asus M5A99X-Evo and an AMD 1055T which developed fault pre POST of CPU_LED. I understand that is a CPU fault but there have been a lot of people that have had the same issue that has been motherboard related.

I was toying with the idea of going to Bulldozer with by board, but if that doesn't fix the problem I then need an AMD board, and if I am doing that then then I'd rather go Ivy/Sandy Bridge.

If I go down the IB/SB route where would I be best spending my cash?
I currently have what is in my sig, with 8gb of Gskill Ripjaws z and a OCZ Vertex 3 waiting patiently for a new home thanks to true_gamer.
I am looking to spend between £300 to £400 but obviously the lower the better.
I've not spent that long around the Intel range, but I know that IB runs hotter than SB but apparently has better performance.

My current usage tends to be gaming, video encoding, general everyday stuff, and a bit of picture editing.

So friendly people of Bit-Tech tell me your thoughts, I'm thinking Z77 and i7 2700k or 3770k unless you think there are any advantages to anything else?

does the extra cost of the i7 (either) really benefit you? if not then get a cheaper i5 and love it

btw want me to test your cpu for you?

I kind of took the view that the i5 2500k is only around £50 less then 2700k but in reality I doubt the difference is worth it.
I am waiting on someone sending me a Sempron to test my board with, I may end up taking you up on your offer though, as I fully intend to RMA the faulty part to get some money back against whatever I choose.

I've not had much joy with my current stuff, I had to RMA the board already and now it looks like the cpu has died too.

After looking at the options available I am stuck between the asus sabretooth, v gene, and the asrock fatal1ty.
Other than matx/atx I'm struggling to make a decision as they are all very similar when it comes to benchmark and performance. Does anybody have an opinion on any of these.

If anyone is interested in what I decided, it was the maximus v gene and the 2500k with a couple of fans for the h50 and some mx5 paste.
