    I'm currently gaming at 1080p on a 24 inch Dell with a GTX 970 ( i5 4690k stock, 16GB RAM).

I'd like to move up to 1440p ( 60Hz) and I'm unsure of the best way to go.

I'd like to stick to Nvidia, and there's a couple of different options in my budget ( sub £300 and I don't mind buying used).

The obvious choice is a used RTX 2060 which seem to go for about £250 - £300 used, but I've also seen 1070 TI's and 1080's for around that amount.

Is newer ( 2060) better or would the older cards still provide a decent experience for the next few years at 1440?

Also ( I've been out of the game for ages in terms of CPU developments etc) I'm assuming that my current CPU should be ok and won't bottleneck?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Well I'm really not into any specific type of games, I do like some FPS and the odd blast of Skyrim. I guess it's just trying to find a balance between cost and relative future proofing.

Id set my sights on a GTX 1070 (EVGA) looking at 180 - 200. I think that would be your best shout tbh. I own a 1070 and a 2060 and theres not much in it i promise.

I conjunction with a Ryzen 7 2700, a 1070ti is working well for me at 1440p. It makes easy work of Skyrim Special Edition, WoW, TESO and recently, No Man's Sky with settings on max.

Actually if you can afford a 2060 the there is a very decent Vega 64 on overclockers right now for £299.99

That that blows the 2060 out the water tbh as long as you have a decent PSU. Might want to slap a 4.5Ghz OC on that little 4690k .. I have one here running at 1.16v Stable.

From what i can see the 4960k @ 4.5Ghz is around the same as a Ryzen 2600 @ 4.1 Ghz. The little fella just needs an overclock and your golden mate.

I’d not considered an AMD card. Not sure why really, I guess I’ve always just been Nvidia.

My PSU is an EVGA 650W, will this be enough?

Is the Vega a better option for 1440p?

The question is, is high refresh rate something you want? I got a 1080 FE second hand on the marketplace a few months back for £300, which easily does 1440.

I’m ok with 60hz at the moment. I’d love 1440 144 but monitors with that spec are out of budget.

Im quite sure 650 is fine for that card. Im not saying go get it .. just worth consideration given the market. I make it a better card than the 2060 IMO and a fair chunk cheaper too. A 1660Ti is just as viable as a 1070 .. There really is a lot of options for most budgets out there :)

I went for the 1070 route. Pumping 95 FPS to wow at 1440 without any struggles.
