I'm looking for a mp3 player that has a usb connection that it can read music directly off of. I want to be able to hook a portable hard drive up to it so I dont have to spend $300 for a ipod with 30 gb. I want to be able to spend $100 and get a portable 100gb hard drive and just hook the usb directly into the MP3 player. If anyone knows of one, that'd be a huge help. I'm also hoping it has a fm transmitter but, if not I can find a way to make that work.

There isn't anything which does what you want, theres something which does it with photos and memory cards.

Otherwise Get any PLAYS for Sure (P4S) device and it will be read by a computer with WMP10 or above on it. They may also be labelled as MTP devices. These can be read easily.

Do you mean a USB host, so you can connect USB devices directly into it without a computer? The IRiver H300 series has that, but it cannot play files directly off the external device AFAIK. You would have to copy them over before you can play them, and it is only USB1.0 :(
