    If anyone is after a c00l portable mp3 player I highly recommend the MPIO-DMG 128MB Silver MP3, WMA player, I bought mine from www.mp3players.co.uk

    It's really tiny, has good sound, drivers worked first time with no probs (w2k), and best of all it has a sexxxy BLOO backlit LCD. What more could you ask for?!?!?!

    I did consider getting the i-pod, I read an article saying that it's possible to connect them to a windows box. Only probem though is since it's a hard drive, this would be subject to skipping? I'll be using the mp3 player while cycling to work so I was also worried about bad sectors and things. I don't know much about usb hdd's though, that's just what I think IMHO.

    it all depends i used to carry a toshiba sattelite in my ruckscak for college & as it had nearly 6 hrs batterlife i used to plug a pair of headphones in, set winamp running & put it in my bag & walk from my college to town, never skipped but 2 years later the drive failed due to damaged secors (then agian it was 2nd hand when i bought it & now a goof few years old

    i would not worry sereously i put a pc in my mothers car set up for monitorless mp3 playing (jsut a standard desktop p2 233 no fancy laptop hd standard 3.5 drive) & it ran in the boot of her car (peaugeot 306) & for the few months it was in there until i had to sell it, it never skipped, the drive was in perfect condition when i took the pc out even tho the machine was continually loading mp3's (wired up a control system fr it)

    so no they dont skip unless you are very violent & the drive should not be a worry, to connect an i pod to a pc you have to buy a firewire card & downlaod the software but a lot of it is all shareware so you may only get a month before you have to fork out for the software

    i got the Rio 800 64 meg version a while back, and what a pile of garbage it was until i got the new updated one. Their old one the headphone jack was the same size as the power jack, so one day not thinking about it, I accidently plugged the power cord into the headphone jack, needless to say about 10 weeks later I had a new one with a different powerjack style. Its a good player sure its kinda small and propiertary, but it was $125 so can't complain really.

    Its served me quite well so far. Had no problems yet. OH but i did switch out the headphones as "ear buds" have NO bass whatsoever

    only $79 USD, 64mb built in and accepts up to 128mb smart media cards, and the soyo mobo im getting includes a card reader/writer in the sigma box. so im pretty happy

    edit: only complaint i got is that the grey middle button and side things are just paint on white palstic. so after the HEAVY use ive put it through the paint is getting thin in spots

    /me empties wallet onto desk...

    :sigh:

    I'd really like an MP3 player, discmans are way too bulky and walkmans are also too big...

    I used to have a Siemens SL45, great phone AND a great MP3 player, and smaller than most standalone MP3 players too. Paid £190 for it about 18 months ago, sure they're cheaper now.

    I was lookin into buyin an iPod a while back when my second Discman died on me. I just got another Discman instead (financial reasons) but I wish I got an iPod. The thing is, the iPod uses 32meg of hard cache memory to store the songs in so it won't skip and takes the load off the Hard Drive. Simple :)

    You can get a 10gb version now too. I want one :blah:

    Anyways, if you wanted to use it on a PC you'd need:

    a) Some MP3s (haha)

    b) A Firewire MoBo or PCI Card.

    c) This Software :: http://www.mediafour.com/products/xplay/
