When you copy a large image (or do a screen capture) and paste the image into MS Paint on windows 98, you get a question whether you want to enlargen the paint-area or leave it as it is and just paste a section of what you copied. But when pasting into winXP MS Paint, it doesn't ask, it just enlargens the image anyway! It's really irritating when I for have a small image and just want to paste in a little part of a screen grab there. Is there any setting I could alter to make XP be as polite as 98, and ask?

Did you get what I said, btw? Not easy to explain this stuff.

    This should be in software.

    I'll check - I doubt it though.

Could I just copy MS Paint.exe from a win98 computer? Are there any other files to MS Paint that I will need to copy as well?

more than likely there is going to be some software conficts/missing files/registry entries etc.

Whats wrong with the way it is now? I find it makes little difference.

To me it makes a huge difference. Say I have a small image that I'm working on, then I want to copy in a part of a screen capture of 1280x1025. That "hugifies" my whole image.
And today I was designing a header for a web page. I was supposed to have an image at the far left. The image was about 150x150 px, while my header was 100x800 px. Needless to say, the stupid picture I pasted in had to make the whole header 50 pixels higher than it's supposed to be, forcing me to go to attributes and set it back to normal size. Totally unnecessary.

    hmm....

you realise that ms paint is merely a toy. its not meant for productive use?!

spend some money on Painshop pro or something.

    BTW.
ever think of pasting the screencapture in a NEW paint document, saving it and using the edit-->paste from command?

Yes, I realize that K9. I use Picture Publisher for the finishing touches, but I find Paint to be quite good to do things roughly.

It doesn't make any difference when using the paste from. It still enlarges the image. :(

That's not as flexible as in win98, where I can move the image around, finding the best section to use. And it's much more work.
