There is another reason to have a bias against sli / crossfire, look at the performance one 200£ card delivers these days at resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 or 1920 x 1080.
Point being, how many people have 30" screens? 1%? I doubt its even that many, so anything that delivers performance beyond what a 560GTX can do is pointless for 99% of all Gamers.

    single slot GTX 560 Ti?

Anyone know if there's a GTX 560 Ti on the market or coming, that'll have cooling so compact/clever that it's only single slot?

I believe OEM's have done this with older gen. mid-range cards like this, so it's no unprecedented.
I'd rather not rip-off the stock cooling & add my GPU to my WC loop unless it's absolutely necessary*

*Don't think there's WB's around yet for 560 Ti anyway, & it's quite possible there won't ever be.
Dangerden have recently done some for the GTX 570/80, Swiftech don't seem to have done any for years.
I suspect it'd be more likely that a VGA card OEM devises a single slot cooling solution.

I wouldn't say it's just an issue of performance issue either, nor one about a niche market of ultra-high-res gamers, but perhaps one of economics too:

You may need a more expensive motherboard, as not all of them support multiple slots / proper lane delivery to each slot for multi-card use.

You may need a more powerful PSU, as not all of them will have 4 x 6Pin, plus the increased power demands of two cards (2 x 170W vs 1 x 244W)

You will be limited in your casing choices - no more micro gaming builds for you, as the form factor is limited to M-ATX, and even then your cards can't breathe.

Your case likely will require better cooling, as a fair amount of air will be sucked out by the cards.

So don't get me wrong, I'm all for increased performance, but when it's gauged against both the initial investments, and the costs in the long run, saying that 2 x 560 >= 1 x 580 just because there's more donuts for your dollar, isn't necessarily true.

The former will be releasing a single-slot WB for the 560Ti soon, but I don't know of any others
