    hey guys
making a pc for a mate and he wants 3 displays he requires 3 monitors to play games but also use for work.

but he doesnt want to spend silly amounts of money
    so

im thinking either 3 x U2311h dell monitors for total of £600
    or
    3 x u2410 but refurbs off ebay for £300 a piece

problem is he could get all 3 u2311h off scan in one go as his budget allows or could get 2 u2410 then get the 3rd inafew weeks.

now for me getting a refurb monitor is last option but i hear getting a u2410 refurb can save £150 off retail and is the only way to be sure you have no dead pixels.

any ideas ?? better to buy new or buy refurb and hold off for the 3rd monitor. he will be running gtx 580 sli on a i7 2600k with 8gb ddr2 all on a msi p67-gd53 mobo

im pretty sure warrenty wont be an issue as dell gives 3 years on there refurbs but will all 3 monitors be identical ??

LG IPS231P-BN uses the same panel as the Dell, ViewSonic, etc. As LG make the panel, they can sell their monitors cheaper.

    Cheers,

    Simon.

but goodbytes tells me that the LG is inferior slightly as it uses white led backlights instead of CCFL ?? no idea what either of them are but the mans like god of monitors im just his servant. lol

also in a 3 display setup will the extra vertical pixels of the u2410 be better for the experience ??

simon i have seen your videos but the camera angle does do justice to the awesome ness

I have owned 3x U2410's in the past. Unless 16:10 aspect ratio and the extra height of 120 pixels is what you need, and greater colour accuracy, you ain't going to notice much difference in games, unless you want to see more sky in a racing game for example.

All I can say is the LED backlight is working for me! Colours look stunning, and not washed out.

    The choice is yours.

I know the camera angle isn't giving it any justice, but I don't have a wide angle lens, to fit all 3 screens in, so it does make everything look out of place.

the LG IPS231P-BN is £166 so would be a total of £500 which is £100 under budget. so very appealing

No one said that white LED provides washed out colors. All I said is that the whites will have a slight blue tint.

If color accuracy is not important, or not seeking the closest to a good CRT monitor image, then you don't really care.

In summation of what is being said:
-> U2410 if you need height (heavy multitaskers, or those who seek the maximum height or """true""" wide screen (4:6 extended on the right.. so no height loss) tend to want and prefer 16:10. U2410 will get you the best colors for a non-professional monitor. And you can plug well about anything you want (HDMI, VGA, 2x DVI, Display Port, Component, Composite).

-> U2311H and the LG IPS231P-BN are more basic screens compared to the U2410 (no crazy features), but still very good. And the frame design are ideal for an easy multi-monitor setup.

    -> U2311H vs LG IPS231P-BN

Of course, the U2311H is more expensive.

No mater what monitor you pick: U2410, U2311H, LG IPS231P-BN you won't be disappointed, as all are excellent monitors.

If it's just for PC gaming, you can drop the U2410, and consider the U2311H and LG IPS23P-BN. If your doing work, or seek for a closest good CRT image, or non-professional image editing/video editing, or CAD-like work, or want the inputs and the crazy feature (Picture-in-Picture, side-by-side Picture-in-Picture, pre-calibrated sRGB and Adobe RGB profiles (well not for professionals, as they would calibrate the monitor every month for pin point color accuracy) the U2410 is to be considered.

person in question is an achitect so multi screen will help with CAD drawings but two screens will enough for that use. however for gaming 3 screens are required. i think either 23" dell or LG would do fine. would two gtx580 be enough ? would i require the 3gb models ? what gaming performance could i expect ?

2 GTX 580, will run most games at 5760x1080, but you will not be able max them all out, or even have AA on.
Tri Sli GTX 580 will max out every game including 32xAA in Just cause 2/BFBC2 etc at my res of 6030x1080.
1.5GB GTX 580 are fine, although the only 2 games I find a push is Crysis and Warhead, where the 3GB will be needed to max the 2 games out with AA.

    Cheers,

    Simon.

only problem is i was planning a sandybridge build so will have to move from the £104 msi mobo to a gigabyte ud7 for £266 then get the ax1200 instead of a ax850 that £50 more, then get the additonal gtx 580 which is around £340

so £550 more just on in-the-box hardware thats not including screens which is around £600 on top

I find shameful in spending so much money on GPU's now, especially when a new Nvidia GPU is expected (based on Nvidia road map) to be released or announced at the end of year.
