Im looking for a text editor that works in a multi-user environment. basicaly it should connect to another computer running a coppy of the program and let both users simultaneously edit a text file. Preferable in barebones IDE style. all legaly free of course. does it exist?
I believe that's called IRC. ;P Not sure about a specific program fot it, but I know there's lots of "Data collaboration" software that allows exactly that.
im thinking that it would be great for open source projects. and perfect for me and a friend to fiddle arround with a few things.
I've used data collaboration software before with video conferencing before, and it's pretty neat. Had one person in Texas, and another on Hong-Kong working on the same Word document at the same time. But that was proprietary software built into the VC suite. I know there are several other companies that make this though, just a matter of finding a free one.
thats the catch isnt it? :~} id idealy like to write my own because I can visualize my idea suite... but yeah right. I need a few years
Dokuwiki (and therefore other Wiki style apps I guess) kinda works like this. Different people can exclusively edit different parts of a text file, but it's not real time...
