My friend is experiencing an issue with his computer where strangely only multiplayer games result in severely annoying frame lag.

About every 20 seconds, his frame rates will drop to nearly 2 frames a second, which will last around 3-4 seconds. It is strange that this is only caused by multiplayer games, such as CS:S and WoW. We've tried pinpointing the issue, which has led us to find that every single time this happens, his CPU(E6600) gets a major usage spike. Attempting to run the process on both cores at the same time presents the issue, so we tried it on the first core, no fix, second core only, no fix.

His RAM timings check out. His video card doesn't seem to be the source of the problem. His PSU is completely suitable for the hardware he has.

It's just the strangest thing that this problem only exists in multiplayer games, but results in the CPU usage reaching 100% for the entire duration, then returning back to normal amounts. Could it be an issue with the motherboard chipset?

If there is any other information I need to supply, do ask.

    Specs:
    XP Professional SP2
    Intel E6600
    EVGA 8800GTS 640MB
    MSI P6N SLI-FI (nF 650i SLI)
    2GB DDR2 800

Also, we've looked into the issue many people were reporting with their 8800GTS 320 cards, but none of the the solutions or possible fixes seem to have any effect. I'm assuming that it's a similar but different issue.

Oh and I apologize if this is a solved issue on this forum. I attempted to search, but the image verification tells me I've put in the wrong characters every single time, even though I knew they were correct. =[

Try disabling the Windows DMZ service (Wireless connection thingy) - it sounds identical to the issue I had a while ago, it's a software problem. :)

    p.s. Welcome to the boards.

Might I inquire into where I can find the option to turn this off? I've tried checking on google, but have yet to come across anything helpful. Would it be a service? If so, which?

Thanks for the help and the welcome. :]

RUN>msconfig>From there you'll see a LOAD of services that you really don't need to run (backround services) and that wireless one is pretty nasty when it comes to playing online games. Could it be your connection possibly (with the server)? How many times a week/day do you reset your modem?
