Is there any way to use multiple computers with my ipod? Id like to be able to just plug my ipod into any computer and get all the music without having to install any software on the computer itself (installing software on the ipod itself is fine). I also want to backup all that music on my desktop. I can find ways to get music off of ipods, but not on. Mac and windows compatability would also be nice, but only windows is essential.
You can't do that. This is part of how apple protects its intelectual rights. The protocols used to get music on the iPod are the property of apple computer and thus software and hardware vendors that wish to directly communicate with an iPod must license the protocols through apple before doing so. Real decided to circumvent apple on the matter and on atleast one occasion apple made an "upgrade" to the iPod that made it incompatible with Real's service. Real has publically stated concerns of a lawsuit because of their method of interacting with the iPod The iPod is meant to allow music transfers in one direction; music can be transfered onto the player but the player is specifically designed to prevent you from transfering it off. This is a method os discouraging piracy. I won't say it is impossible to get music off, but apple has taken measures to make it as difficult as possible.
With respect your talking rubbish. Look up gtkpod. the iPod uses FAT32 and is a fairly simple device. The main issue with trying to get music off it is that the music is spread over many folders to make it a pain to get the music off.
Use the ml_ipod plugin with Winamp. Problem solved. Free and easy to use, so long as you can take the fifteen seconds to figure out Winamp Library (alt+L) if you haven't already. There's also quite a few other pieces of software that work in a similar way, but ml_ipod winamp plugin is the only free one I know of. The only measure Apple took of making it difficult to get music off the iPod is bundling iTunes with it and then making people assume it was the only way to transfer to/from the iPod. Probably every other solution a) is much better and b) allows two-way transfers.
Heh, not really an issue at all. Easiest way I've found: Drag contents of Ipod to a folder on your PC, don't worry about the silly directory structure. Set Itunes to scan that directory for music. Advanced -> Consolidate library That should rearrange and move all the music in the crap directories into your Music directory, it's worked fine for me a couple of times in the past
Im using the ipod plugin for winamp. I love the way the plugin works, but i dont really like winamp very much. Is there anything similar for itunes? its just what im used to and what i like.
