I've got two computers in my room, but only one printer. I don't have the time or knowledge or hardware to network the prtinter atm, so is it possible to connect both computers via usb to the printer? what would i need in order to do this?

Its easier just to share it rather then mucking about with USB. Set up the printer on usb on one computer, and share it over the network. (easy on winXP, you just go into the printer properties and enable sharing)

there is a such thing as a usb switch box, ive got a belkin one here which enables you to attatch any usb device to more than 1 pc. I had it switching a 7port belkin hub all you do is just hit a button to tell the hub which oc you want it to connect to.

heres a cheap 2 pc one and heres a 4 pc x 4 device one

You can buy a network printer, which connects directly to a network, they're not easy to find though. If you have a network already, its exactly what TMM said!

But I guess ChrisGreen's plan is what you want.

eh? not really, just about any decent HP Laserjet will take (or come with as standard) a Jetdirect module to enable it to run standalone on the network
not to mention if it cant take an internal print server you can get external ones, basically a box with an ethernet port and a selection of parallel and usb ports usually

HP also make inkjets with network connections, some are just for a wired network but I have two at work that are wireless-B and wired aswell.

I thinking more of injet printers rather than laserjet, which are not so easy to find, although there are a few out there.
