    Hi all,

I'm potentially going to have 3 SSDs in my computer shortly, and maybe a fourth elsewhere down the line.

I'm looking to reduce the cable tangle and this product only needs 1 SATA power connector four 4 SSDs.

    https://www.scan.co.uk/products/icy...m_medium=cpc&gclid=CLKZisPR6MoCFSoKwwodnuQLpQ

I don't necessarily need hotswap (as my onboard chip won't do that with SATA anyway...) and I would put good money on my son figuring out how to eject a hard drive mid gaming session, so was wondering if anyone had seen anything else around which offers the following features:

    1. Supports 2 - 4 drives
    2. Provides power efficiently - either with a custom power cord with short gaps between the drives or a full on backplane
    3. Internal only or lockable
    4. Nearer £20 ideally but whatever comes

Probably not what you're after as it's more expensive than the icy-dock & needs 2x SATA-to-4x (supplied) custom plugs...

...however, 'if' it's the most important thing, this fulfils the lockable requirement - https://www.xcase.co.uk/an-f110-222...-into-4-x-2-5-6gb-backplane-49-00-x-case.html

i bought one (for 4x SSDs) & a 3x5.25"-to-5x3.5" one when rejigging everything for my X99 build &, imho, they're really decent.

Well, looking at the reviews for lots of the cheaper ones then people seemed to be pretty consistently complaining about fan noise - though i guess you could disconnect the fan as it's not essential for 2.5" SSDs.

As to internal ones, back in 2009 i bought a Lian-Li 5.25"-to-4x 2.5" thing where the drives fitted in from the rear, & it was a complete nightmare when it came to flashing new f/ws with the SSDs in R0 - so it lasted in the case for perhaps a month... ...& has sat in its box ever since.

i guess an option would be if you've got somewhere you could Velcro something like the icy-box thing internally - perhaps on top of the PSU?

Simply making a custom power cord is probably my cheapest option I grant. But then I'm going to want to do all kinds of exciting things like braiding and making my own power cords and :dremel: it'll never stop and I just want to play computer games with lots of SSDs! I'm too lazy to get back out my crimping tool sets. They've probably rusted from inaction!!
While this would fill most needs it still needs four separate power cords looking at the back. The IcyBox needs only one which appeals for power cable efficiency.
PocketDemon - do you have any information on this LianLi adapter you have? It might work for me, I can hunt it down on their website if you have/remember the model.

So do those 4 drives still show up as four drives in windows? How does that work, I thought a SATA channel was for single devices?
Or wait, is it only 1 power cable but still 4 SATA cables?

    *EDIT*

nvm, ignore me, just seen the last picture, :D

1 power cable, upto 4 SATA data cables - 1 per populated drive bay aye.

Look at picture four on the link for a shot of the rear (ooo err).

Whilst it's 4 physical connections at the back, it's 2 cables - with the loop of cable between each two extending roughly a cm beyond a standard sized CD/DVD/BR writer when they're attached as a left pair & a right pair (re the small back connections)...

...however, it should be possible to alternate them which would make the loop shorter.

Yeah, other than being able to quickly find which cable's connected to what, so needing a reasonable amount of order - with most of the cables from the PSU being zip tied to the case - i simply don't care about the internal aesthetics.

i just like having a monolithic slab of a case that only gets opened when needed & has as few lights & whatnot as possible... ...the only reason for black fluid in the w/c loop is that the rad's external & so it doesn't stand out against the case & rad.

Whilst i'd need to find the thing, it has no back plane at all - so needs 4x SATA power connectors.

The only point in mentioning it was about explaining that wholly internal 5.25"-to-4x 2.5" ones are a damn nuisance.

    [Edit]

Whilst it's almost certainly of no use to you, it's a BZ-525B - http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/bz-525/ (the B being for black naturally).

Yeah I see what you mean. Overall it looks like I will be better with a pair of these directly above/below each other:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Akasa-AK-HD...GFAC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455007559&sr=8-1
Especially as I already own one.

I could then add additional connectors to the existing sata power cord spaced so they fit without cable mess.

I guess I'll suck it up and get modding! I have a semi modular PSU now, so my sata power cord is already loomed. Just need to cut into the loom and add some connectors, shouldn't be too bad.
