I am having problems with playing Assassin's Creed 2, Revelations, Assassin's Creed 3, and Sleeping dogs. Is there a log some where to tell me why the games lock up my computer? If so where are they located, if not how do I tell what is crashing them. I should have plenty of graphics power to run them so I'm not sure what's going on. I have no problems playing Borderlands 2, Left 4 dead, or NZXT. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Specs of the computer is in my SIG. This happens in Steam and Ubiplay. Thanks Mechh69
First step, reinstall drivers. Failing that, try removing two of the 260s and the 9600 and testing again. Then swap out each of the 260s and test them independently. Assuming things work then you could try adding in the 9600 with a single 260 to rule that out. If reducing the cards down to one doesn't solve the problem then at least we have ruled out the four cards as being the issue. Run memtest. Check your HDDs health. The PSU might be to blame, but unless you have access to another monster PSU it will be harder to rule this out. If all the above is still causing issues, the motherboard is the lowest common denominator. CPUs don't generally fail unless they have been heavily overclocked for long periods of time. Take a look in the event viewer to see if there are any driver crashes or obvious issues, although hard lockups tend to happen before the system can react and log things so this may be limited.
Sounds like drivers dude, seeing as you can play those other games just fine. Do you have the latest? Also, download furmark and see if that crashes.
My SSD is new less than 3 months old and has a fresh install of windows less than 3 weeks old. I will run memtest when I get home tonight. I'll also give the event viewer a check. If all else fails I will disable the SLI and if problems still presist I will start removing cards. 2 I have run Furmark and Haven in 3 way sli with no problems no crashes. I have tried 2 sets of drivers, the previous drivers and the newly released drivers they both have the same issue. Thanks for the advice guys, keep the comments/suggestions coming.
Furmark and Haven are not driver dependent unless your aiming for high scores. The games you listed will all require specific driver profiles for 3 way sli to work in them.
In W7 you can view the error logs this way: Event Viewer > Custom Views > Administrative Events (double click). You can find the event viewer with the search function. Usually when you have an app crash it points to what caused it. It might be a driver, or the kernel ect.
Lastnight I played sleeping dogs for about an hour with 1 card no issues. So I'm assuming it's an issue with SLI. I will test this tonight with assassin's creed also. Rollo where can I find the specific driver profiles for these games or do you have to go in to the Nvidia control pannel and change them your self. Fizzban I will check the event viewer tonight also, I hope it shows something. Thanks for all the advice guys.
Well those 260s have done a good few years service now, so it would not be overly surprising if one of them is playing up a bit.
Sleeping Dogs seems to work fine when only running on 1 card but as soon as I turn on SLI it acts up I have not tried assassin's creed yet. When i get a chance I'll let you guys know. I'm not sure if DirectX is and issue or it's a profile issue.
