Wait, they were charged with not advertising and keeping the price up? Why are they charged with that and not sony or other labels that sell items that people actually buy? Sony certainly doesn't advertise all of their artists, and discounts? HA! Oh yeah, and to the question of when govt officials will realize how stupid this whole mess is... The answer is never. Because they would have to have some idea what they were talking about before they could realize such a thing.
The government will never realize the mess about copyright, price fixing and assorted stuff cos the companies behind them will be bankrolling the people who represent us in the government. Like RIAA is the cat's paw for sony and other record companies IMO. They will bankroll people in power who have the power to pass or not pass bills on this issue. That way RIAA pushes for something and lets the government go through with their deliberations and look good staying out of it, while the companies behind RIAA will do the pushing through of the bill. Sounds like a conspiracy theory ? Well, if I was in their place, and in such a situation, it seems good.
I think you're absolutely right... but no one's going to see it. So you hit what you can. If everyone's getting pissed off at the RIAA, eventually that paw will become stale and catch gangreen, which will spread to the companies who support them. It's just a matter of time till many many people realize the crap that the RIAA is defending, and realize that it's not even worth it to listen to such rubbish.
you want to know how to make the paw die and die fast? Boycott everyone you can get, get them to stop buying music for a year and watch as the RIAA sees that poeple don't like them anymore. All the RIAA is doing is using fear so people do as they want, well what if the people aren't afraid? they lose
