Basically at the moment I'm listening to music like :

    Coldplay(new album speed rocks!!!)
    Travis
    U2 (previous and current album)
    Keane
    Semisonic

    and stuff like that ...

basically I'm just wondering what genre is this type of music called and are there any other bands which sound like that or that I might like, thankyou very much :)

The genre is Indie, but people are likely to disagree.

    Bands to try:

    The Killers
    Razorlight
    Bloc Party
    Stereophonics
    The Bravery
    The Departure

List goes on and on. Enjoy exploring man :D

Oueblaze, thats a mixed genre, mainly Indie, rock, pop-rock & softrock if you like genre, you will love:

Thirteen Senses (very coldplay esqu but better :) )
    Embrace
    Athlete
    Three Doors down
    Blur
    Hot Hot Heat
    Foo Fighters
    Kaiser Chiefs

Generally try and steer away from anything with the 'the' prefix as there completly generically made up for sales :), even some of the ones ive listed are also (havn't listed bands that I particulary like, just ones that are same style and genre that you like, have fun).

Radiohead, Blur, Oasis, 3 Doors Down, Stereophonics and perhaps Silverchair are the best of that sort of music you will get. Most of the new stuff that seems to be flooding the charts at the moment (basically anything touted by NME as the latest "Must have" album) can be ignored as its the same unimaginative, repetative rubbish.

but at the end of the day its upto you to work out what you like and what you dont! :)

A lot of these new bands sounds like rehashed 80,s new wave to me.
Franz ferdinand being the main suspect.

Well those particular bands fit into a genre I like to call "indie-lite sleep-inducing pish" :D

For some good bands (that all those guys would kill to be) I would recommend:

    The Smiths
REM (particularly the early stuff, but you'd probably love Automatic for the People)
    The Flaming Lips
    Beck

    Cheers

oh noes, they sound like another band *jumps off cliff*. Don't see the problem some people have with bands that are similar to other bands, the futureheads are pretty similar to the smiths in some respects but the futureheads are still good and so are the smiths. (imo)

I don't see it as too much of a problem...but it just really annoys me when bands get hailed as "the saviours of music" or whatever when they aren't really doing anything all that original.

I think what the music industry needs is more innovation, less hype :D

i must admit the my favourite of the bunch are futureheads and bloc party.
the lead singer of bloc party has a similar voice to fat bob smith ala early "cure".

Don't let the name put you off. They're like Coldplay covering Travis songs whilst listening to Athlete.

Interpol are better than all of the above... BAR Agoraphobic Nosebleed.

    http://www.interpolny.com/

Official band websites usually have free clips to sample/download. Always worth having a look on those, rather than trawling through an archive of sorts.

Try and get BBC radio 1 (over the net) during the day time, and all you get is this type of music.

I would recommend bbc 6 music actually, they played "indie" music (as well as most other kinds of "alternative" music) but they don't have to pander to the whims of whatever's in the charts that week!
